USC Roster Undergoes Spring Cleaning

Most of this I’ve written about previously but here who is not on USC’s spring roster: WR Jalen Greene, WR Joseph Lewis, OT Nathan Smith, DB Jamel Cook and LB Olajuwon Tucker. I have mentioned all these moves previously except Greene.

Greene is transferring and will be eligible immediately. Lewis is going through his legal issues from his domestic incident. Smith is retiring from football injuries. Cook and Tucker are also transferring.

I previously mentioned center Cole Smith retired from injuries. So USC will now be able to reach the 85-scholarship limit and maybe hand out a couple to some walk-ons.

Cook is a disappointment because USC coaches raved about him in high school. He also had three interceptions in one spring practice last year. But he was a safety in high school and USC always wanted him to play cornerback.

  1. I don’t like impatient players. Although I thought Greene is a bit of a surprise. The rest can and will replaced by players who are willing to hang in there. I guess this where I am a bit myopic about the coaching decisions regarding players. I would play as many healthy guys as possible, rather than stockpile malcontents. But I am not a coach, I’m just a grumpy guy who hates reading about players jumping ship.
