USC Morning Buzz: Tuesday Notes

  • For the past couple years, people at USC have told me that former assistant coach Todd McNair was offered a settlement by the NCAA of between $5-10 million. They said his lawyers turned it down because they were confident he would get much more ($27 million).
  • 200 USC professors have signed a letter demanding school president Max Nikias step down. “He has lost the moral authority to lead,” the letter states.
  • The USC Board of Trustees issued a statement to today supporting Nikias. “The executive committee of the board has full confidence in President Nikias’ leadership, ethics, and values and is certain that he will successfully guide our community forward.”
  • USC athletic director Lynn Swann has been named to the board of directors of Evoqua Water Technologies, a Pittsburgh-based water treatment company with more than $1.3 billion in revenues.

Swann’s USC salary has not been revealed but is believed to be comparable to the $2.8 million Pat Haden made at USC in 2016.

Does he really need to join another board of directors? When he was hired by USC, it was announced he would resign from all boards except a plum Flour Corp. board position.

  1. What on earth is the matter with you, Scott? A Water Treatment Board gig is a good fit for any Athletic Director. Good for Lynn. This bodes well for USC athletics in general and the 2018 football season in particular. Things are looking up.

  2. It’s how the corporate world works – have your friends join you board, and give them a tidy salary. Cronies….

    1. And, apparently, the University World as well.

Name your friends on the Board of Trustees, give them a tidy stipend, and they’ll support you even though all the evidence suggests otherwise.

      Cronies.

  3. I always had high esteem for USC. Lately though, USC has turned into a gutter trailer trash whore that is looking for the biggest payout. You have Haden and his 23 stooges wanting to screw over the Coliseum, you have the Greek just wanting to raise money and closing his eyes to the scandals. Two of these scandals on his watchaer two too many. Yet they pay the gynecologist to leave instead of firing him and arresting him. Wait, I forgot to mention, USC knew of this punk and his antics since 2000. As long as the money came in, the Mad Greek did not care. Now, I see the BOT’s are still wanting the Greek Pimp. USC turned into nothing but a den of whores. I hope those ladies sue the crap out of USC, the punk, and the Greek Pimp for everything they have. To have these yahoos drag USC’s fine name down in the gutter and keep it there by not firing the Mad Greek Pimp is just ludicrious. May God have mercy.

  4. So as long as you can raise million of dollars, hiring a drug addict for the head of the Med school is overlooked, following that clown with a new hire that USC KNEW had previous sexual misconduct issues and now the current issue with the GYN.

“The executive committee of the board has full confidence in President Nikias’ leadership, ethics, and values and is certain that he will successfully guide our community forward.”

    U$C it is.
