USC Women’s Track Wins NCAA Title

USC came from behind and defeated Georgia, 54-53, to win the NCAA women’s track and field title.

The Trojans won the 4×400 relay, the final event, to win the national title as Kendall Ellis ran a strong anchor leg (50.05). Ellis survived a shaky baton exchange and then made up a huge gap to edge out Purdue and win the race and title for the Trojans. USC also got an unexpected victory in the 200 meters from Angie Annelus to win the title.

USC has now won 28 titles in track and field (26 men, 2 women).

  2. My ghosh when I was a kid USC dominated track and field but it has been well over 40 years since that was an expected outcome just as it has with baseball. This is great news for the women program and for women sports at USC!

  5. Interesting that the big difference was Angie Annelus winning the 200M out of nowhere. She is a former bruin who transferred this year. Look at it two ways that where was USC initially to recruit her, or a stab in the back to the ‘ruins for gifting a national title to the Trojans. Also happened with Rai Benjamin who won the 400M LH for the men. Coaching staff missing with two elite athletes who for some reason came across town to make the Trojans look very good.
