USC Picture Of The Day

Here is a great picture from the annual fireworks show at the Coliseum in 1957. In the center is the big white clock that kept the time at the stadium during the 1950’s and 60’s.

  1. It was a wonderful time to be had by all – motorcyclists on ramps. I remember one poor soul who had himself put on his head on a high pole and moving back and forth from 0 degrees to near 80 degrees both ways. I recall the pole was at least 30+ feet in height. They’d extinguish all the lights and everyone would strike a match and hold it up as so many smoked back then it was easy to do. Finally the fireworks and then jiggidi jig homeward bound.

  2. I remember that clock. And then there was the digital clock that some crazy guy with an axe chopped up. I remember when the clock would foul up and they couldn’t reset it. I have a lot of memories of that place
