USC Recruiting Class Ranked No. 24

USC is ranked No. 24 by Rivals. The Trojans are No. 21 by 247.

The “big” get was defensive lineman Drake Jackson, who was also considering Arizona State. USC missed on “athlete” Chris Roland, who stuck with his commitment to Arizona.

Clay Helton was in full spin mode today. Asked about fans unhappy with the recruiting rankings, he said USC signed only 10 players last December and then added JT Daniels.

He neglected to mention a lot more recruits signed this December than last December. And USC had a five-star last December (Palaie Gaoteote) but not this December.

Helton also promised next season will have “accountability to do the right thing on the field over and over again.”

I will believe that when I see it.

Helton also said he is not worried about Kliff Kingsbury going to the NFL.

“He said, ‘Coach, if I decide I’m coming to USC, I’m coming to USC,’ ” Helton said.

  1. Can’t blame Clay, remember, Scottie? You gave him no credit for his Top 5 classes (USC Recruits Itself!), so when he’s now at 24, he can’t be blamed. You made your bed on this one, baby…. The question is, what else is going on at SC that can be blamed? Lack of a Prez? Lynn Swann? Crappy Pac-12 Network? we’ll see…..

And boy, even with their shiny new coach, UCLA got Creamed, huh?

    1. I’m not ready to turn on the team and this year’s recruits. SW is and has. Recruiting rankings don’t measure heart and toughness. I hope that these recruits play with a chip on their shoulders and compete their butt’s off.

      1. Right here Toecrud.

Chip got what he needed; he has 45 more days to add additional recruits.

        UCLA: 3 – 9 34

        Clown U: 5 – 7 27

Next year Toecrud, UCLA will bitch slap bozo u harder.

    1. Progress? 8-4? Gee, we should be just about ready to get our as#es handed to us by Alabama again.

As long as the program includes Swann and Helton, USC will continue to play sloppy, subpar football. This would be true with the #1 recruiting class. KK will improve the offense, but CH doesn’t know how to win, especially on the big games. Experienced leaders are not made overnight. CH is a major leadership reclamation project. It’s not gonna happen for him or Swann at SC. Clock is ticking. Keep your eye on AD revenue. That’s the tell. School can’t absorb losses from lawsuits as well as an unprofitable AD.

  2. 8-4? Based on what? Has anyone looked at the schedule? …As long as Clay Helton is the coach, Pender-gas, is the Defensive “Guru” and Swann is the AD, there will be no winning seasons–especially if anyone thinks that 8-4 is a “winning season” at SC…..JT Daniels is NOT Sam Darnold…the OL is a disaster and they can’t even recruit O-Lineman…I guess Helton continues to believe that Wide Receivers are the key to success…no matter…I’m not renewing my season tickets…SC has reached new lows since the sanctions…the NCAA won…it didn’t have to be that way, but it is…Thank you Reggie Bush and family…thank you Pat Haden…Max Nikias, Lynn Swann, et al…I can’t blame Kiffin or Sarkisian…they believed they were the beyond qualified successor to the legend–Pete Carroll. And, as great as Pete was, his ego led to the dismissal of Norm Chow and probably a few more NC’s…..

    1. SPOT ON. Exactly. Texas game goes our way; don’t sh*t bed at Oregon State (31-33 L) in late October or (worse yet) 13-9 L vs. UCLA with NC Championship birth on the line (would’ve played and destroyed Ohio State, instead Florida did); Stanford 2007, L to 41 point underdog after Harbaugh punked PC at Pac-10 Media Day and said Stanford would win….that cost us trip to NC game; and then crapping the bed at Oregon State (again) on a Thursday night game to finish 11-1 and again cost us trip to NC game. PC could’ve reasonably won five (5) National Championships in a row. Running off Chow and vis-a-vis Tim Davis and losing Oregeron and letting his ego take over and hire inexperienced sycophants he could “mould in his own image” with the New Age BS Win Forever crap and bring in idiots like his fat son and Yogi Roth pretty much wrecked that. PC could’ve set an NCAA record for NCs rivaling Oklahoma in the late 40’s-early 50’s.

  3. Disappointing, but on the other hand, there are schools that do more with less.

Wisconsin recruiting classes have been ranked in the 35-40 range historically (better this year), and they have a winning percentage of about 75% over the last decade or more. Just shows what good coaching can do.

    1. Absolutely right. Wisconsin is a great example (Barry Alvarez built that program from scratch after coming over from Lou Holtz Notre Dame staff)…and look at what Bill Snyder did at Kansas State…coaching matters…at USC, Larry Smith took Ted Tollner’s recruits to three straight Rose Bowls…Pete Carroll took Paul Hackett’s recruits to the top in short order…in contrast, Clay took Sam, JuJu, Adoree, RoJo & Co. to … waiter, check please!

  4. As bad a coach as Helton is…Lynn Swann is even worse… a worthless lazy ‘househand’ back end of a horse who appears to have never worked a hard day’s work in his entitled life.

Sooner Helton is gone the better as well as that golf playing a$$ Swann

    1. Swann has forgotten the hard work that it took him to get where he is (even if it was a long time ago). He had to have worked hard to be a great receiver.

  5. Helton also said he is not worried about Kliff Kingsbury going to the NFL.

“He said, ‘Coach, if I decide I’m coming to USC, I’m coming to USC,’ ” Helton said.

Meanwhile, in his interview with Packers ownership, Kingsbury said, “man, that Helton cat is an idiot. I will work for free to get away from him.”

  6. Toecrud hurls elementary school put-downs:
“Rents – Break time is over, put your hairnet back on, and bus tables 4 and 5.”

Toecrud is an apt Clown U metaphor for the value of a 3rd rate bozo education.

  7. Helton is a terrible coach. He couldn’t win with renown recruiting classes. Only Swan believes he will turn it around. It’s time to cry WOE…. What’s wrong with the morons at SC…. the sports program isn’t in decline… It’s hitting bottom.

  8. With respect to college football at USC, the leadership begins with “leadership” at the Head Coaching position. If support from the program comes from the Athlectic Director, then the net result should be a winning season with a team being in the top ten in the AP, Coaches, and CFP polls. USC is in need of a complete “overall” starting with the Head Coach. Since Lynn Swann wants to stay with a Coach that doesn’t know how to motivate his players to win, then the 2019 season will be the same as what took place in 2018. Wake up and smell the coffee if you want to be a “collegiate contender” in football producing All Americans and Heisman Trophy winners. I rest my case.

  9. SC has had and still has the most 4 and 5 star athletes and helton .This class doesn’t matter, heltons practices, fall camps and spring ball will bring last years results…you are not going to develop the athletes having practices in shorts, and skipping available practices…if helton runs practices the DC and OC do not matter, helton is their boss and decides whether practices are full pads and contact …or shorts…SC will do well vs teams that practice is shorts like SC…that is why they are a losing program currently.
