Deontay Burnett Is Not Drafted

USC wide receiver Deontay Burnett was not drafted. Is this a surprise? When Burnett turned pro, I was told by sources that Clay Helton told Burnett he would be a late round pick or perhaps undrafted. Burnett weighed this against a feeling Helton would be eager to showcase other receivers like Amon-Ra St. Brown, Michael Pittman and Tyler Vaughns. This is a common feeling among … Continue reading Deontay Burnett Is Not Drafted

USC Morning Buzz: Four Players Picked In 3 Rounds Means Something . . .

Sam Darnold, Ronald Jones, Uchenna Nwosu and Rasheem Green were drafted in the first three rounds of the NFL Draft. They were four of the first 79 players selected. So this buries the whole crowd of people during the season who said how great an accomplishment it was to win the Pac-12 South. And then the Pac-12 title. USC had the most-talented team. Imagine what USC’s offense would have faced with Ward? And apparently it did not bother the Browns that Ward skipped the Cotton Bowl to protect his draft status. It turns me off, to be honest. So … Continue reading NFL Draft Makes Cotton Bowl Even Worse

USC Morning Buzz: If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A Notes Column

The New York Jets used the No. 3 pick to take Sam Darnold. Who did the Jets take the last time they drafted a quarterback with a top-three pick? Answer at the bottom. Unlike Josh Rosen, who was upset when he dropped to No. 10, Darnold did not mind dropping from No. 1 to No. 3. He was asked if he had a chip on … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A Notes Column
