So I gave you the good news yesterday that the Seahawks are pursuing USC strength coach Ivan Lewis.
But there is a less positive scenario being tossed around the McKay Center that Clay Helton could simply promote offensive line coach Tim Drevno to offensive coordinator. That is the kind of move that would happen in the past but would be pretty disappointing after the initial appointment of Kliff Kingsbury.
Drevno was offensive coordinator at Michigan before Jim Harbaugh fired him so he has some experience. But if it happened you can bet Helton would call a lot of plays.
- Meanwhile, USC basketball player Kevin Porter Jr. remains suspended.
“He is still a part of our basketball team,” USC coach Andy Enfield said. “He will continue to practice with us. He’s working on some things off the court and will be held out of competition until he meets the very clear expectations that are expected of him.”
Porter Jr. might be a lottery pick but he’s been a bust for USC. A “thigh bruise” for six weeks and now suspended. Compare that to the way DeMar DeRozan contributed in his only season.
OK, what’s next? Swann taking the OC position and call plays?

In a perverse way, that would actually be fun to watch, R. T. —–but it would lead to the head coach having to fire the athletic director on the tarmac.

LMAO on that one. But wouldn’t it be the AD firing the OC on the tarmac? That would be better. Swann firing Swann. Comedy of Errors

I like that. It’s never been done before.

Yes, MG. That definitely would be. And perhaps, a real comedy as such would be more enjoyable than following a maddening season like the last season.

Scott needs to step up and fill both OC and Strength and Conditioning positions. Those soccer shirts are busting at the seems.

Wow! What a guy Pete Carroll is… Apparently, PC agrees with Wolf and many USC fans that there is a clear and acute problem with USC’s strength and conditioning program. In an obvious effort to help USC, PC is trying to hire away USC’s problem so that he can put his players and future at risk instead! What a freaking saint. This is the most plausible reason I can think of him doing this unless I allow for the possibility that Wolf and these fans don’t know WTF they’re talking about.

No, buddhakarma. [We ALREADY have a problem with players beating up coaches]……

I guess it’s possible that the team’s being pushed around every Saturday is attributable to something other than conditioning —-but Coach Whittingham is on record as saying USC players are soft and play soft football. You know I value your opinion —so tell me what’s up here: is it the coaching, the soft practices, the strength program —-or a little bit of all three?

All in all Mike USC has more talent than damn near any program. I would say in no particular order only Bama, Clemson, Ohio State and LSU (who has had the problem of their coach winning with the talent) have the level of talent that USC has.
But two men have kept this talent from blossoming to reach their potential with their soft and boring practices and coaching. Clay Helton and Clancy Pendergast better milk the time they have at USC for what they can get out of it because they won’t ever get another job with a big time program again.

Tim Drevno is an established coach, and I doubt if he’ll be a figurehead offensive coordinator like Tee Martin was, because he doesn’t have to. He’s probably the only coach on staff, who would actually get rehired at a Power 5 program . And I’d be shocked if Drevno ends up being the offensive coordinator, because he’s a run first type of guy, while Clueless Clay Helton is the complete opposite

Drevno is a HORRIBLE OC. After He got dumped at Michigan nobody wanted him. He was so desperate that he took a job as a running back coach lol. Who cares that he’s a run first guy when his offensive schene is terrible and isn’t productive?

All that can really be said about Drevno is he’s a much better o-line coach than Callaway (but, then again, Seth Rogen would be a better line coach than Callaway). If Helton quietly announces on the Sunday before spring practice that Drevno is acting offensive coordinator it means that he’s received an uninterrupted string of hang ups in his search for a “Notre Dame-style” coaching upgrade…

I agree.
And i think if Drevno were to be hired it would be for a short period of time before Helton starts to micro manage because he’s inpatient from the first few games scores not jumping out at him instead of letting him grow the offense to dominate the line and beat teams over the top also.

USC needs to fire Athletic Director Lynn Swann and nice guy Clay Helton. He isnt head coach material. As a Trojan I am so disgusted where this program is. Still trying to get it right since letting Coach O go. Please hire Urban Meyer to get the program back on track.

Never know who Swann was playing golf with in Augusta. Maybe he invited some one there to interview and hire. Otherwise why would he be there at this crucial time for our football team.

I heard swanny has been quietly courting Jeff fisher to take over once Clay gets the boot.

With Swann’s callous and apethetic attitude towards Helton and USC, he just went to play golf.
