There Are Still Cornerbacks To Offer

USC’s desperation for cornerbacks continues. The Trojans offered Adonis Otey, who is committed to Arkansas. He is expected to make an official visit in February.

I suppose any corner who has not signed should be recruited at this point. USC can promise to turn them into the next Jack Jones or Iman Marshall.

That didn’t work with Chris Steele or Elias Ricks. But it might work for some kid that is from the other side of the country and not paying attention.

  1. Besides Marshall making himself look foolishly dumb in the Cal game he’s been said to have had a good senior year all through the season from a lot of reports. It was actually evident. You could see he worked on getting better. I wish he never went to the sideline and ripped the Cal team but we shouldn’t have won that game anyway. We played awful.

  2. I could never figure out why Marshall mouthed off. To the best of my knowledge, he wasn’t baited. If it was a one time move, it came at the wrong time. If it was typical behaviour then he should have been riding the pine.
Cal had Nevada player of the year, Mohammed Ali’s grandson who did a similar. Didn’t play the rest of the year. Transferring out in 2019. Taught the entire Cal team to keep their mouth shut.

      1. I doubt it.

But if Ming gets really ticked he might be able to stifle the flow of Mainland Chinese students enrolling at Clown. Should that happen, it would be a significant loss to Clown U’s operating revenue

    1. Ming might not be the best guy to lead a movement. As a rule of thumb, to get people really pumped up and ready for action, it’s necessary for an instigator to complete short sentences in less than a half an hour….

      1. Arturo —I don’t know the backstory on the relationship between Caruso and Ming, but Ming’s EFFECTIVENESS in the specific meeting in question depended on him being ready to hit Caruso with everything he had within the one minute time limit. It’s frequently the case in courtrooms or boardrooms that artificial time limits are imposed —-and to get the job done, one has to be ready to hit the mark in the time allotted. [The bit about Ming being escorted out of the room sure sounds excessive, though—-I mean, wtf was that about?!]……..

  4. My eldest daughter goes to Bishop Gorman and new Bolden. I think they may have dated, but he never came to my house. My daughter is very pretty (every dad says that, but I mean it totally). And she’s been a great role model to my young 12 year old. Anyway, I digress. She’s got one more year at Gorman, then off to who knows where yet. I’m hoping for flight school. But its not my choice (just my money, LOL)

  5. On the recruiting end of things, this looks like a pretty solid class for USC. Sure it would be nice to get more OLine and DLine, but SC does need secondary help. But getting Bru McCoy (where do they plan to play him?), Ford at WR, and the defensive help at ILB, DE, CB and S is huge. Helton can recruit, but in my opinion, and I’m no expert at all, he needs a more competent staff to develop players and manage games. My “sleeper” pick in this class is Nick Figueroa. JC transfer, I can see him playing a ton. Having typed all that, I’m still perplexed why SC has two HUGE tight ends recruited. SC doesn’t even use the tight end in the offense. I’m thinking maybe they are going to be used in other positions? I don’t know.

    1. Good post, Ray. SC has used TEs during the Helton regime. If you examine the situation more closely, you kind of see why they haven’t relied on them: Petite could block, but can’t run a route to save his life. Josh Falo has potential as a receiver, but lacks the size to block real effectively. Krommeneok, only a Soph next year, looks like he will contribute next year as he finished the year well. Finally, Imathorbhebhe had game- he just wasn’t healthy and has used up his eligibility. In short, if they- these Freshmen TEs- can block and pass catch, Helton will employ them (I hope).

  6. Despite what SW says, if USC offers you a $60,000 per year scholarship to train at a state-of-the-art athletic center for a storied football program- despite a bad season- YOU LISTEN. The fact that there is a chance for early PT makes the offer even more appealing. If Otey has a reasonable person in his corner, then they probably have conveyed to him that this offer is, not only a game changer, but a potential turning point in your life. Hopefully that person is also telling him that he shouldn’t give what bitter old men say a second thought.
