A Word On Reggie Bush

If you want the NCAA to allow Reggie Bush back at USC, that’s fine.

But I will again say that Bush needs to show some contrition regarding his actions.

Here’s a quote from last year: ““The people at the university bailed on me. Coaches bailed on me.”

This is from a guy who never even agreed to speak to the NCAA.

Or this rationalization: “The guy who I took money from was my boy” and a “family friend.”

All of the above comments were made last June, not 10 years ago.

There are a lot better things to be concerned about than Bush, in my opinion. Like whether USC will ever have good leadership at any level.

But I wrote this so people can offer their own views on the matter.

  1. To me it’s not about Reggie. It’s about getting the ncaa’s control out of the equation. Even if there was a movement at sometime to bring him back, it is forbidden by the ncaa.

    1. I don’t even care about the Reggie Bush scandal anymore. Ancient history. Let him come back. Keep him away. Whatever.

Since then, USC has done enough on its own to sink its own ship. The NCAA sanctions were nothing compared to the Nikias-Haden-Swann trifecta.

      RIP USC

  2. Reggie Bush should reimburse USC some of the money they lost in Bowl game revenue, that was caused directly because of his sneaky, selfish actions . And once he does that, then maybe the Trojan family will welcome him with open arms

    1. F paying money to USC, dude. USC deserves more money like a morbidly obese guy deserves a jelly donut. They don’t need it nor deserve it.

All the players who missed out on bowl and PAC 12 Championship opportunities like Matt Barkley deserve a hand-written, tear-stained apology from him.

  3. First, what Reggie is saying is that what transpired was not a violation of NCAA rules. Originally the idea was to prevent schools from buying athletes with outside gifts. USC had nothing to do with the money given to Reggie. NCAA rules allow gifts and loans from family and friends. Reggie isn’t denying he accepted money, he’s arguing it was permissible.
This is in contrast to Cam Newton’s father demanding money to sign a letter of intent., and skating on the violation because it was his dad’s mistake.
That being said, Reggie Bush could have cleared some of this up by agreeing to talk to the NCAA. By walking away from the University without an explanation Bush made a horrible choice. I believe he took advice from Mike Garrett. He wasn’t in school and not obligated to talk. Reggie was too important (in his own mind) and took off for NFL gold, leaving a bad taste in many people ‘s mouths.
If USC wants to welcome Reggie back, they should take the NCAA to court. Their ban of a non athlete is clearly an overreaching penalty that would not stand up in court.

  4. The ncaa has no authority over individuals once they are no longer active college athletes. They constantly have to be sued or stood up too in matters that are out of their jurisdiction…SC failed miserably ,cowering under unfair sanctions. Ohio St , Penn St, Auburn ,No.Carolina to name a few stood up.
Reggies parents were the real culprits negotiating while living in San Diego Co. Did SC have authority to monitor their financial deals? Did SC want Reggie to leave early? Does SC want any all American to leave early , and help them to by getting involved with agents? Everybody knows the ncaa hate committee lied, etc..too bad SC today is still gutless.that

  5. Bush should have never surrendered his Heisman (he needed to live with the stain). Haden should have embraced the school motto and sued the NCAA (but that gutless clown sunk the athletic program instead).
