Would Lynn Swann be able to conduct a coaching search any better than the Lakers?
It’s a legitimate question for an athletic director who acts like he knows everything but has no practical experience.
Lakers fans seem to have similar feelings about Kurt Rambis, who took too much time and ended up with Frank Vogel. Who would USC’s Frank Vogel be? Or are they already run by a Vogel (Clay Helton)?
USC’s rarely hired an outsider (Larry Smith, Pete Carroll) and Swann would probably have pressure on him to do it. At this point, though, some already seem to want offensive coordinator Graham Harrell despite the fact they literally know almost nothing about him other than what he says in interviews.
Based on everything else, Swann’s ability to botch a coaching search cannot be underestimated. Frankly, the best hope for USC is to fire Helton and then have new president Carol Folt force Swann to form a search committee, something USC hates to do.
It might be the only way to end the current USC-Lakers comparisons.
At least the Lakers fans staged a meek protest outside Staples Center. When will USC fans voice their displeasure?
- The USC women’s water polo team, without Coach Jovan Vavic, will play Stanford today for the NCAA championship at 3 p.m.
- You haven’t heard much about tight end Tyler Petite since the NFL draft. Petite worked out with the Denver Broncos last week and is scheduled to work out with the Washington Redskins this week.
