USC Notes: Will A.D. Campaigning Take Place This Weekend?

USC women’s volleyball is hosting the Trojan Invitational at the Galen Center starting today. One of the teams just happens to be Villanova.

It will be interesting to see if Villanova A.D. Mark Jackson, who would like the USC job, just happens to be at the tournament. Usually, an athletic director won’t fly 2,700 miles to accompany the women’s volleyball team to a tournament.

There is already some intense criticism from within the USC athletic dept. and some donors to Jackson’s candidacy. Many fans blame him because he pushed for the hiring of Steve Sarkisian.

  • Actress Felicity Huffman was sentenced 14 days in prison, 1 year of probation, 250 hours community service plus a $30,000 fine in the College Admissions Scandal.
  • A reader emailed me that Brian Turk, a former Mater Dei and USC offensive lineman, passed away this morning. A GoFundMe account had been set for his family as he battled cancer.

  1. Interesting that Scott combined the two stories.

Leads me to consider that an alternative sentence of no jail time for Huffman, plus a much larger fine – with the proceeds going to help true athletes and families in need – would do much more to serve society than having her spend two weeks in the hoosegow. But perhaps the $30K is the max fine allowed in this sentencing?

    1. 67 — I can tell you from experience that the first 10 hours of her community service will be legit….and the remaining 240 will be discharged pretty much by just living 240 hours beyond the first 10…..

    2. The prosecution was asking for 30 days – she got 14. No matter it’s still 2 weeks in ‘stir’ and it’s something her kids and grandkids will never ever forget. The biggest pieces of filth in all of this are Singer and his partner Heinel and between the two Heinel is the worst….they don’t get ‘matched up’ the impact would have been far far less.

Swann is rightfully sacked for not ‘looking’ at the ‘add ons’ that Heinel was presenting. He could have cared less….that was work that’s a word Swann never knew. He was as all truly awful managers are – his job was solely ‘giving orders’ and deferring to the next level down to do the hard work or in Heinel’s case the evil work.

  2. Mark Jackson should be persona non grata from USC forever for thinking that Sarkisian would be a good head coach for USC.

    1. Sark’s sin is bringing a soft football style to the football program. Even Lane tried to play smash mouth.

But Sark brought the mentality that lineman don’t matter, that scoring quickly is better than giving your D a breather and making the Helton hire necessary because of the need for an adult in the room.

I’m a football fan and football sins are worse than administration sins. (Tyndall might be 1A and Sark 1B or vice versa).

      1. Exactly!!! Sark is the one who hired that fool, Bob Connelly to coach the offensive lineman. And when he got fired, all he could find was a high school job..😂😂.

  3. Mark Jackson knew what a drunk Sarkisian was, and covered up his indiscretions.Off he went to Villanove because he would have gotten canned too. The one person in the Athletic Department (besides Steve Lopes) who should leave is Cheryl Taplin, executive assistant to the head coach. She came down to USC from Washington with Steve Sarkisian and knew his problems up there, and then at USC. She remained quiet while he destroyed the team and continued making a mess of himself. FTFFO. Instead of exposing his problems, she kept her mouth shut. USC does not need someone like this on payroll.

    1. I think maybe Cheryl needs to be cut some slack. On the plane down to USC, Sark told her “as you’ve probably noticed, sometimes I have “episodes” that mimic intoxication —causing me to slur my speech and bump into chairs and curse at my players— it’s a “disability” I don’t want anybody to know about —cuz I’m too proud —-so let’s just keep it a secret, okay?”

  4. If it’s Friday, it’s time for another cautionary tale from Pudly…

Helton: “We need to continue attacking the upset alums. Let’s call them trolls and haters.”

    Pudly: “You’re right, Clay.”

Helton: “Yes men like you, Pudly, help me sell the faith, family and football bullshit to the gullible fan boys.”

    Pudly: “You’re right, Clay.”

Helton: “I get so stressed out by all of the criticism.”

    Pudly: “Roll over, Clay.”

  5. Mark Jackson is a moron for pushing Steve Sarkisian for the job, and not because of the alcohol , but because he’s not a very good coach. So apparently, Jackson lacks the ability to evaluate a coach, so he definitely should not be the AD at a power 5 school.

  6. Ask yourself Clownster’s, If Ms. Taplin’s boss was St. Pat, who might she squeal to regarding Sark’s wee drinking problem? Lest ye forget SUCXXsters, at that time, the bozo Athletic Dept. was awash with fireballs.

    1. What is Chianti Dan awash in Dickhead? How is that Chip hire working out with 29k in the Rose Bowl? Tomorrow you might get beat by 60 and then they will let off. What a axxhole to come over here and talk smack. UCLA the most underachieving FB school in the last 30:friggin years.

      1. Yes, 67 —- [I have to admit, though, I did find humor in Owns’ concern over who in the Athletic Department poor Cheryl would report an alcohol problem to]……

      2. I have to say, “Chianti Dan”, is one for the ages. And I think that we won’t have “Chianti Dan” to kick around much longer.
