Ron Fairly, a star of USC’s 1958 national championship baseball team, died from cancer Wednesday in Indian Wells, Calif. He was 81.
Fairly played center field and hit .348 with 9 home runs and 67 RBI in 1958, his lone varsity season with the Trojans. He then spent 12 seasons with the Dodgers, where he won World Series titles in 1959, 1963 and 1965.
Fairly also played with the Expos (1969-74), Cardinals (1975-76), A’s (1976), Blue Jays (1977) and Angels (1978).
For a later generation, Fairly was known as a broadcaster: He was a play-by-play announcer for the Angels (1980-86), Giants (1987-92) and Mariners (1993-2006, plus occasionally in 2007, 2010 and 2011).
Fairly was inducted into the USC Hall of Fame in 1997. Funeral services will be private.

When I was Fairly became my favorite Dodger as he was a Trojan. I lived and died with his every at bat. Met him once and my Dad told him he was my favorite player. I am saddened by his passing.

we always went to baseball games and track meets at sc in the 50’s…he really was a special player…somewhere around early 60’s he actually opened a restaurant Ron Fairly’s Dugout near where I grew up in Lakewood ,Calif near carson ave and cherry st. I ate there just because I wanted to support him and his venture…the food was OK.
Hope he is in heaven…
