Clay Helton Thinks You Are An Idiot

Look at the statement Clay Helton put out right now:

“We now have the support,” Helton said.

Now? He’s been holding the program hostage for two seasons because of his five-year contract. What more support did he need.

But this is the most outrageous statement: “We are putting the final touches on an outstanding recruiting class.”

How dumb does he think USC fans are? Really? A class ranked 70th is outstanding?

Congratulations Mike Bohn, this is what you brought on yourself.

    2. Everyone knows that you don’t lose your position because of injury! JT should of course be named the starter! Besides, now we know that we have a backup in Slovis who is the best back up QB in college football!

    4. The J. T./Slovis outcome depends entirely on whether Harrell is coming back — which NO ONE can even tell us….. receivers being recruited have to be rolling their eyes at this mess….

        You will recall I started seeing this a couple of days back…the presidents of the 1850s are now off the hook, as are Tollner and Hackett…only Pudly and Herbstreit and Griese are ecstatic…

        Don Coryell or Bill Walsh wouldn’t make a difference, let alone Harrell and his gimmick good only against poor opponents pop gun offense…

        The program has truly gone to HELL-ton…been nice knowin’ y’all…final parting shots:

        1) Anyone who wastes a second or spends a penny on this travesty is aiding and abetting.
        2) Lynn Swann says: “I not only could have done this – I did do this! WTF?!”
        3) Better Sun Devils than HELLton Devils

    6. Don’t see JT “padding up” for Spring Ball, and he’ll be behind in August.
      I don’t see a “QB controversy” in August 2020.

      Bama lost all its experienced LB’s by early September, and thus played two true Freshman all year. Knowing Nicky, those two Freshman will be coached up for August 2020. Nick reloads, USC has been rebuilding since 2009.

      1. Agree completely on there NOT being a QB controversy. Kedon’t growth from the beginning of the year to the end was not what we saw in JT last year. Graham has to know this. Bohn has to know this. Even if CH want to, he’d be called out by the other two and anyone else within earshot.

  2. Slow down there, Hoss! Who’s to say that it isn’t an outstanding recruiting class? All the major sports media outlets? They’ve been wrong before. I think Bohn and Helton can give us a better assessment than ESPN ever could. I look forward to many, many more statements like this from Helton and Bohn ….right up til the day they are driven off with pitchforks and torches.

  5. Like I said before, where’s the progress after four years ? Clay Helton wasn’t handed a program where the cupboards were bare, it was actually in pretty good shape when he took over the previous two coaches players. But where has he taken it since, it’s exactly where you would expect an inexperienced coach to take it, even though he’s had more resources than most programs in college football. Whatever Mike Bohn, and Carol Folt’s criteria is for measuring a head coach, it stinks to the high heavens, and gives all indications, that the athletic administration is no better then it was under Pat Haden, and Lynn Swann.

    1. 04 —It’s possible that Folt inserted conditions into the deal (can’t smoke, drink, swear or kiss in public) that made it hard for male candidates other than Helton to say yes.

  8. Worse deal? Clay goes 9-2 and wins the South next year. The again the next year….then his recruiting catches up to him. That will set USC back to Baylor or SMU level rebuild.

    2. Road games at Stanford, Autzen/Ore and Rice Eccles/Utah in late Sept/early Oct.

      I am the eternal optimist, but I’m struggling to fashion a 9-3 or 10-2 season in 2020 UNLESS we keep Harrell–who is a good football coach, and we obtain a top 10 DC.

      I do get your Baylor/SMU rebuild analogy, though.

  10. Sad day for USC football and its fans. Helton has been saying the word “special” for a while. I think i am going to drink heavily . USC seems to be out of touch with its fan base. Many loyal for years!

    Meyer or Saban is a type of coach that will never KISS YOUR ASS!!

    DISGRACEFUL DISPLAY!!!! USC IS A JOKE, HELTON IS A VILLAGE IDIOT, BOHN IS CLUELESS, AND FOLT IS IN WAY OVER HER HEAD.

    This is the sentiment from many angry ex-USC fans that have been dedicated to the University longer than the Three Stooges of Folt/Bohn/Helton have been alive.

  16. I was really disappointed in the decision to retain Helton, but I was pissed off by Helton’s statement, which echoed the BS from Swann’s infamous statement last year announcing Helton would be retained.

    Bohn and Helton better get cracking on shoring up the staff. New DC and Special Teams coaches–and guys that recruit well. And they better hire a top notch recruiting coordinator. I don’t know who’s doing it this year (Nansen?) but he’s doing a sh*t job. If I’m not mistaken, Tee Martin was the previous recruiting coordinator, and his loss (for better or worse) has really shown its impact with the (lack of) quality of this year’s class.
