Was this a rerun of almost every other USC game?
Why were so many people fooled in the second half of the season?
USC makes the same mistakes week after week. It played a good team tonight. Not UCLA. Not Cal. Not Arizona. Not Arizona State. Not Colorado.
Clay Helton cannot lead. Clancy Pendergast cannot contain the edge. John Baxter cannot defend kick returns.
Oh, and Graham Harrell is an inflated joke. Just because Kedon Slovis threw for 515 yards against awful UCLA, he is a genius?
He is not running the ball. Ever. He hurt the defense doing that. And he really hurt Slovis, because he allowed Iowa’s defense to tee off on him. But he got that three-year contract extension.
Where is Mike Bohn? Where is Carol Folt?
Beat the Crimson Tide!
Horribly coached. Unprepared. Unfocused. Pushed Around. Not Ready for competition outside the Pac-12, despite having on average the 5th best recruiting classes the last 4 years.
Perhaps the most disappointing loss in the last 5 years.

67 — I JUST listened to Helton’s post game press conference. Naturally, he did his mysteriously inauthentic “40 Year Old Virgin Smile” throughout [I thought he’d be decent enough to come in on all fours, crying]. He began by saying “we were good, but we want to be great.” Let me repeat that —he said he thought they were GOOD tonight ….but they could be GREAT! That sentence reminds me of something Roger Ebert observed while watching the demented Bob Guccione film Caligula for his review. In the theater, he saw a man laughing every time Caligula dismembered another victim —and he wrote: “Somehow I was watching an individual who had —long ago —become disassociated from ordinary human feelings and emotion.” That is what I see when I saw Helton tonight–a complete wreck of a human being….a man who long ago stopped feeling what honest, normal people feel. A man who’s not in touch. A very strange man. And he’s our coach. Let that sink in: This lying, dishonest fraud is the Head Coach of the USC Trojan Football Team.

This man is just a idiot at answering questions or just making sense in general. He’s a piece of work. Or a piece of something.

Michael, at one time, Helton was an unassuming, personable, pleasant, nobody.
Suddenly, Haden offers him $millions and the opportunity to be HC at SC. Which he was incredibly unqualified for. He has gone from the personal, pleasant nobody whom players liked, to a dishonorable, dishonest, fraud. And he is still a nobody.

No one should EVER again call Helton a “decent” man. When Folt or Bohn throw that word out it demonstrates their disdain for the players who are injured as a direct result of Helton’s “ballroom” practices.
18 and 19 year old kids are getting seriously injured because Helton doesn’t know how to get them ready for the tough and physical game of football….

there’s no shame in resigning. okay, there’s some shame in resigning. especially after a route. but, it’s even more shameful to hold a blue-blood program hostage to prove everyone wrong. when it could not be more obvious to everyone — media, fans, players, opponents, recruits, wife — that you don’t know what you’re doing.

Mike –Clay has already told reporters that he went for the field goal in the last quarter cuz Drevno told him he was down by three and he thought Drevno meant 3 points –not 3 touchdowns. He then said “Boy, from now on I’ll check the scoreboard myself. Lesson learned!”
When asked if there was anything he wished he did differently, Helton said “I wish we’d squeezed in a little more sightseeing.. hey, does San Diego still have that kooky Wild Animal Park?”

Feel sorry for the players…what for? The players are always backing up Helton because he runs soft practices and lets them do what they want as far as screwing off during practice.
The players are just as much at fault for this shit show everyone is witnessing.

tebow —the players are scared of Helton –it’s pretty obvious they know he’s not altogether right in the head department. Pittman is fucking leaving and even he kept his mouth shut last night during the presser —saying stuff like “I don’t have anything to say.” I don’t know (and probably don’t want to know) what it is about Helton that has the players so afraid to speak out —but whatever it is, it’s sure as shit working…..

No, not remotely. The U, or Miami, wasn’t a blue blood program, they had one genius level coach and business CEO in Howard Schnellenberger, in the early 80s when they were about to shutter the program. He built something with the support of president Dr. Foote, from an old aristocratic academic family associated with Yale, who appreciated athletics and changing a university through marketing. They had the dirty old Paul Dee, a USC nemesis. They were well connected to the old “Miamuh” city elite and boosters. Schnellenberger and his protege coaches gamed the system every way, incuding the dirty agent Drew Rosenhaus
When Foote and the proteges left, the Big East dissolved and UM found itself in an ACC old boys who developed the whole conference, UM struggled, as talent was raided by a resurgent ACC and SEC. UM and FSU didn’t screw themselves like SC. SC has no excuse.

I know Miami’s history as I grew up watching when they dominated. I didn’t mean it literally, I was just comparing how two powers have fallen. BTW; the hHurricanes have had 4 different coaches win a natty.

No recruit in his right mind would or should enter this program. No fan in his right mind should contribute to watch this program. Helton’s staff is a national laughing stock. And Helton himself is the biggest joke ever perpetrated on college football.
Folt and Bohn are too lazily muddled to be ashamed of what they’ve done —so fans have to take matters into their own hands: Don’t support this product. The USC “Brain Trust” treats us with absolute disdain —let’s return the favor….

Michael, absolutely right. They treat us like we don’t exist. SC football is a fundamental part of SC’s history and reputation, and yet there is absolutely no concern among the idiots (BOT and Folt) running the place . And they think they can lie to us and smile while letting Helton trot out there every week in the fall with his incompetent staff.

67 —Going for 3 when you’re down —not by 3 points but 3 TOUCHDOWNS —and then missing the easy kick —says it all. Throw in interceptions for touchdowns, 100 kick off returns (has ANY USC team had that happen as often to them as this one?), an o-line that got beat on EVERY play in the second half, running backs who don’t make their cut and GO, defenders who aren’t even in the television frame on pass plays —– and you have a mess that’s actually too big to fix by hiring a new d-coordinator…..

Back a few decades ago, Sports Illustrated covered a USC game (may have been Illinois in 85, not sure). A line in that article referencing Saturday Night Live has stuck with me over the years. “The Pac 10 Sluggos versus the Big 10 Mr. Bills.”……the Script has been Flipped. Ooooh Nooooo!!

Prediction…..we have a new DC soon. Then Boner and Bozo have a press conference and state that now that we have a great offense and an improving defense we are on the road.
The whole purpose is to get some poor souls to renew their season tickets.
See last year when they hired the flying circus that was going to be the answer for everything.
Stated right now before the pumpers start next June……our OL and DL stinks……got it……. stinks. We have not recruited linemen for years and it shows.

It only gets worse – the recruitment is over and this back end of a horse is what the nation sess as the head coach for USC.
Notice Klatt and the other guy gushing over Helton on the successful onside kick? I swear the media need to defend this clown is akin to the MSM disgust with the current POTUS…no reason for either side.
Wouldn’t want to be Bohn or Folt right now then again they earn the big bucks and sway around with all that power – you made this mess the two of you can wear it. This will never ever end as long as this moron is the head coach of USC.

Did Gomer, Clancy , and Baxter think for one second that we were facing Arizona, Az State, Colorado, Cal , or Fucla again? Did they think that it was going to be another mediocre Pac12 soft opponent today? Boy were they wrong. Iowa plays physical big boy football and we play soft finesse football with Gomer leading the way. Every time that we face a tough , disciplined team, we will crumble because our Trojans lack toughness. When we get punched in the mouth, the fight is over. I know that this will not happen but can they can Gomer now??? If we gave up 49 today to the 99 ranked offense in the country, how many will an Alabama put up with legit 4 and 5 star talent with excellent coaching? My guess is 77? 85? It’s an embarrassment when even the announcers were saying that USC needs an identity.

Lol. USC is such a joke. They sign Helton to an extension early when no one was going to sign him anyway. And now they extend Harrell’s contract when no one offered him a contract. Nice he went on interviews but looks like other programs know what’s up. What respectable defensive coordinator is going to come without allowing him to bring staff with him? Jack ass Folt doesn’t want to pony up real money to win.

slovis is truly really good, but the problem is that defenses will tee off on him all next year. i really dont think Slovis will make it through the full year. the problem is that Harrell’s offense requires a QB that will go through reads for a long time and take a massive beating. that is a formula for some great games, but not a full season.
by next season, the players will have zero respect for the coaches and things will get real nasty. watch for some of the players that truly care about their development to enter the transfer portal.

Essentially, what we have here is a coach that believes flag football is the equivalent of big time college football. When I attended USC, I thought about walking on…I played high school football at the highest level…but wasn’t dominant. Then I ran into Willie McGinest on the practice field. Holy hell that guy good! What it comes down to is hitting and tackling, and the current coach has no idea where this fits into the narrative.
