Who Wants To Be USC Recruiting Coordinator?

Who is going to be USC’s recruiting coordinator now that Johnny Nansen has been fired?

It can be an important position. Remember, Pete Carroll’s recruiting coordinators were Ed Orgeron, Lane Kiffin and Brennan Carroll. That’s probably a pretty good illustration of how you better have the right person in the job because Carroll’s teams gradually declined at the end.

I can’t say there is a natural candidate at the moment and maybe one of the new defensive hires will fit the profile. But whoever gets the role has the added bonus of dealing with the perceived lame-duck status of Clay Helton while evaulating recruits.

    Carroll’s teams declined? I guess you could spin it that way, but here are the rankings from Rivals:

    2005 USC #5
    2006 USC #1
    2007 USC #2
    2008 USC #4
    2009 USC # 4

    I’ll take that “decline” any day

    1. I love Pete, too, 67 —–but, in my humble opinion, his son Brennan went after “stars”, not talent. I’m not sure he knew that the #1 thing to look for in a recruit is a little thing called “attitude.” USC landed plenty of 4 & 5 star O-lineman and Tight Ends under Brennan who never showed up in games.

      1. Hi Michael, Yes, Matt took a beating occasionally. I would hate to see what would happen to Matt under the line we have now, with Jackson and Richmond gone…

        We won’t ever know how Matt would have handled playing behind a Drevno coached line —but, unfortunately, we’ve seen what it’s like for poor Slovis….
