Remember when the Coliseum was reduced to 78,467, it was seen as a step backward by some, especially when schools like Michigan and Ohio State seat more than 100,000.
Well, here’s a couple stadium developments that are going in the other direction.
San Diego State is going to break ground on a 35,000-seat football stadium. That is half the size of SDCCU Stadium.
It’s not surprising. The Chargers are gone and San Diego State would rather have a full stadium than 50,000 in a 70,000-eat stadium.
But this might be more surprising. Utah is going to close the upper section at the Huntsman Center down to 8,500 seats. Curtains will block off the upper bowl.
Utah has been respectable in basketball and Salt Lake City supports its teams. But maybe this bolsters the argument that people prefer to watch games on TV.
UCLA just announced it will be playing all 2020 games in Kliff Kingsbury’s master bedroom…..
