USC-UCLA Live Blog

See what happens when USC plays an average team. It all becomes a huge challenge just to play. UCLA up, 21-10.

USC defense confused subbing and lining and no one covers the tailback, who scores on TD pass.

Isaiah Pola-Moa interception but a bad penalty by Tyler Vaughns and sack push USC back and Trojans forced to settle for FG.

UCLA cannot tackle and just like that, a 65-yard TD for Drake London. UCLA 14, USC 7.

So far, this is an outhouse performance: Outplayed, outcoached, outtackled, outschemed

USC safeties with poor tackling on both TDs

Wow, USC defense can’t stop the run and can’t stop showboating.

Kedon Slovis takes a bad sack and Parker Lewis isn’t close on field goal.

End of first quarter: UCLA 7, USC 0.

USC defense is disorganized and can’t even line up in time. Maybe because Talanoa Hufanga was messing around at end of previous play.

USC cannot run in short-yardage situations.

A burned timeout for too many men on the field on punt return. Typical.

The new, improved Kedon Slovis with a bad interception.

  • If you listened to the podcast earlier this week, you know who I picked to win the USC-UCLA game.

If you didn’t listen, I will make my pick here: I think USC is the superior team and should win the game. I think UCLA is an average team.

But I think an average team can beat USC. And I think it would just like Clay Helton to lose right before going to the Pac-12 title game. So I’m picking UCLA, 34-31.

P.S. — I also could not live with myself if I picked USC and UCLA actually won, so that’s another reason to pick the Bruins.

  1. “UCLA 34, USC 31”. Scottie, the gutties won’t score that much unless there are a bunch of Trojan turnovers. This is not exactly the “can do” spirit we were hoping to start the broadcast off with. Clay, don’t screw this up.

      1. Hope it doesn’t matter ….but….UCLA wants it more.
[USC’s o-line under Drevno is a joke. And Bohn is a joke for letting THE Big Joke, Clay Helton, keep Drevno on staff to keep him company].

  2. This game reminds me of my first hunting trip with my dad and his friends. He wired ahead for two pints and a canoe. When we got there the guy at counter said, “I got the girls, but what the he’ll is a panoe?”

  3. A win this evening and a win next week should get Helton another contract extension from C.L. Max Nikias.

The De-Emphasis of Trojan Football will then be complete.

  4. After one quarter Chip one Clay zero. What’s new? This game is gonna be like a Covid vaccine. It’ll hurt for a couple of weeks but then hopefully get better.
They keep referencing Carnell Lake. His son had an equally interesting name Quentin Lake is just a few down on the weird name list.

  5. Defense and running game are what champion caliber team possess.
USC has awful defense tonight against C- QB using Wolf grading criteria.
Where is Stepp? The transfer portal most likely. I hope Harrell is hired away.

  7. Very poor…..is this really an SC-UCLA game. UCLA players are more confident than SC… This is an embarrassing game. Still no running game. This air raid offense must go.
No question who is the better coached team. UCLA has a game plan and the players are very confident it will work. I can’t say the same with SC. UCLA has the better team speed also as SC looks smaller, and slower so who is doing the better job in recruiting. You take the SC wide receivers out of the game, and SC has not counter punch to attack the defense.

Please watch the beginning of the 2nd half. UCLA wants this game very badly so will score the first time they have the ball which means: GAME OVER!

  10. Average players for UCLA ahead of superior USC talent for one reason. Inferior USC coaching. USC looks like a high school team without discipline. Celebrating when behind. Really? Really pathetic. I hope USC’s players can pull out a victory. It certainly won’t be USC’s second rate coaching. Again, Helton looks like a deer in the headlights. Is the DoA watching?

  11. Why does he like timeouts ? . They interfere with the flow of the game. Helton that is.
Also, USC should have mailed the game in.
Another question . Why do they play Carr?
I agree with most of the comments. And, UCLA is better coached. Could Helton get a head coaching at any college?

    1. Maui Mike, these guys pulled out a victory from the jaws of defeat based on their superior individual talent over Bruin players. In spite of the dumb ass coaches for USC

  13. Congratulation Clownsters, your team deserved to win. UCLA is still not ready for prime time FB. Chip Kelly needs to resign; he took every chance to lose the game and he did. I can not believe Chip coaching. I’m sorry for the Bruin players but I still stand by UCLA’s FB program, such as it is.

The bad news for SUCC, Helton’s not going anywhere soon.
