Clay Helton Is Finally Fired!

He got two games even though it wasn’t a make-or-break season?

Donte Williams is No. 2 even after his secondary got shredded on Saturday night?

Bohn and his lackey, Brandon Sosna, were huddling all morning. That’s one reason I had not posted much today.

They obviosly want Luck Fickell but I doubt he leaves Cinciinati at this point of the season. Some other names were watching: James Franklin, Bob Stoops, Matt Campbell, Chris Petersen and Bob Stoops.

Here is Mike Bohn’s statement:

I’m sure that statement has been sitting on Bohn’s desk for nearly two years. I will have more today.

  1. The Owns, goodnight, memorial, pinch-hit, this week’s Wolf’s Winner and Loser round-up……(Second posting) – I’m a blog hog today.

    Winners:

Clown U FB circus finally pulls the belated, expensive, fire Helton trigger. But was the Boner’s action wise?

Clay Helton is carried off on his bozo shield. True, he was over his head coaching wise; however, Helton s/b respected for never whining about the harsh criticism he endured. Helton never showed up shit-faced at SUCC FB rallies or drunk ranting on late-night radio sports phone calls; no male or female reported Helton for sexual assault or harassment; he didn’t divorce or beat the shit out of his wife; he didn’t rudely chase SUCC co-ed’s on his H-D and, his players weren’t mistreated. Take a bow Mr. Helton, you did your best with dignity. Have fun spending your millions.

    Clown U Rah-Rah FB blowhards.

The next smuck HFBC that thinks he can salvage the capsized SS bozo dingy. The SUCC dingy has serious underwater structural damage.

Scott Wolf, the straw the stirs his crazy, outstanding, addictive Clown U blog.

    Losers:

Stanford 42 – SUCC 13 in the 4th Qtr., at the crumbling mausoleum……..’nuff said.

The SUCC FB team, they’re more interested in Hollywood celebrating an opponent’s TD than making a tackle.

Kid Slovis and “The Drake,” the garbage time twins.

The SUCC FB program loses more credibility.

US blog followers, if Wolf has really left the building and the fat lady has sung.

…Just because Eric B is an assistant to an offensive genius (Andy Reid)

…does not mean that Eric B would be a great HC for CFB.
Rather, I see Eric B as a future NFL HC for a struggling franchise.
That’s the road #2 for the Buffs has been traveling down. He likely turned down the shitshow U Colorado HC job offer repeatedly (a great hire in Karl Dorrell, IMHO). I’ll take him at USC, but I’d prefer a real “up and coming” HC (Fleck, Franklin, Fickell???, Campbell, Aranda, Venables, etc.

I’ll consider an NFL HC failure (Pete Carroll and Nick Saban were NFL failures, riiiight?) for USC HC. I’ve morphed into a different ideology: College coaches should stay college coaches and NFL coaches should stay in the NFL. We can ask Urban Frank Meyer about that in A coupla’ years. I predicted previously that he’ll be a .500 NFL coach at best.

Pete Carroll was an NFL coach who took a 9 yr journey in the Pac10. Blessed with a “once-in-decade talent” in Russell Wilson, Pete has done “ok.” Without Russell, I do not know how PC would do.

    1. That’s about the way I see it too, tommyd. I think there are a couple of things preventing a Trojan blowout —chief among them is the fact Graham is a brat who is all butt hurt he’s not Head Coach. I was a fan at first… but Graham hasn’t grown at all as OC. He’s stubbornly sticking to the same stuff that’s hampered us in the past. I also notice that Orlando came out with some welcome “it’s all about the team –not me” comments but Graham didn’t.

  10. Mike Bohn needs to perform the following to get my endorsement, but I must say I am impressed he took the first big step by firing Uncle Fester Clay Helton.

The next steps are as follows:

    1) Hire a big name Football Coach before the early signing December recruiting period.
    2) Make sure Donte Williams is retained as Assistant Head Coach, and make sure Wonder Boy Graham Harrell is sent on the first plane out of town after the season is over. The Air Raid is not USC Football, and will never be. The Jury is still out on Todd Orlando!!
    3) Sign Andy Enfield to an Extension before the season begins in November. What this man has done for USC basketball has never been done before so we have to wrap up his services before he begins to look elsewhere after what should be another successful season this year.
    4) Welcome back and honor all USC former great football players who have disappeared in the last few years. Dedicate a statute in front of the Mckay Center for Sam Bam Cunningham who was one of the great USC football players of all time.
    5) Put more resources into the USC Baseball Program which has died in recent years. USC Baseball use to be well respected nationally as one of the powers in college baseball under the leadership of Rod Dedeaux. College Baseball is a growing sport bigger than ever with National TV exposure for the post season so it’s time Trojan Baseball returns.
    6) Remind President Folt that she is a form 60’s hippie from UC Santa Barbara/Isla Vista, and not qualified to dress like a USC Song Girl.

Brent Venables as our HC, then have him steal Joe Moorhead as our OC. Keep Donte as the DC under Venables, who can mentor him. Great culture at Clemson can be replicated at USC.

or I would take Dan Lanning, Georgia’s DC.

  15. USC should not hire another coordinator it is too much of a risk especially at what USC pays. Successful head coaching experience required, and the word successful means someone who has won a national championship, and/ or taken his team to the playoffs on a consistent basis. If you can’t get that type of coach you should pay much less not like you did with Helton who’s market value is probably now at the assistant coach level if that. I would be shocked if anyone, and I mean anyone hires Helton at this stage of his career. His brother might hire him as an assistant at Western Kentucky but that is probably a long shot also

Perhaps, Pete Carroll is our answer even at 70 years old he has won both in college football and the pros, but I think he would definitely conflict with Bohn, and Folt. Definitely a dream perhaps there is a chance he is tired of Seahawk management, and the rain in Seattle. Is there another Pete Carroll in the coaching market probably not.

    1. Don’t get your hopes up about Pete. 0.00% chance on that one.
But you’re right about Clay being unemployable — Tyson Helton just told a reporter who asked if he’s bringing Clay on board, “No one on my team or staff would talk to me ever again if I showed up with Clay by my side. Clay is a cancer, a maggot who feeds on human flesh, a misbegotten, deformed mons……. sorry, I better stop before I say something I regret.”

      1. Correct me if I’m wrong but the only “real” job he had at SC was as a QB coach when Kiffin brought him in. He was never an OC. It was Sark’s offense not Clay’s and then there was the gumbo run by Tee Martin. Clay may have been an O-Line coaches son but he never coached the O-Line. So the only job that he would be qualified for [if any] would be that of a QB coach.
I chuckle when I hear that all he needs is to drink the waters from Saban’s canteena there in Alabama. Saban may be a miracle worker in reviving coaching careers but he is not a god. Even he knows that.
As bad as UCon is, their potential HC list includes Todd Orlando but not Helton.

  19. It is highly likely Wolf is now doing some work with/for USC. He “broke the story” that Cristobal is a top candidate for the position. Not a chance. This is disinformation he spread at the behest of USC. Either tricked into it or intentionally did it in order to curry favor. Maybe USC wants to make Oregon pay more money for Cristobal to weaken them. Maybe they just want to use that as a smokescreen to keep attention off the real top candidates. Or maybe they are talking to Joe Moorhead about coming to SC (as HC or OC).
