USC-Arizona State Report Card

QUARTERBACK

You can’t get the best out of either QB when you constantly chop-and-change. At this point I don’t know how either one believes in their coaches.

Grade: D

RUNNING BACK

The great running attack from the previous week disappeared. But Graham Harrell didn’t seem committed to running especially at the beginning of the game when he was used scripted plays.

Grade: D+

WIDE RECEIVERS

Drake London is gone but how overrated were some of these other guys who don’t seem to get any separation during games?

Grade: D-

OFFENSIVE LINE

The best thing I can say is they have been just what I warned against the entire offseason. It’s a bad sign when both quarterbacks suffer injuries during a game.

Grade: D-

DEFENSIVE LINE

It’s really just a non-descript group. Drake Jackson is supposed to be the best pass rusher and Todd Orlando has him dropping back and trying to cover a running back?

Grade: D+

LINEBACKERS

Kana’i Mauga had 11 tackles but that’s probably because you had an ASU tailback gaining 202 yards.

Grade: D

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Jayden Daniels had a poor game but the DB’s still shrunk in the critical moments when USC could have really put pressure on the Sun Devils.

Grade: C+

SPECIAL TEAMS

Has Sean Snyder “transformed” special teams? Not really. Maybe you can say they haven’t made many glaring errors, which puts him ahead of John Baxter, at least.

Grade: C

COACHING

Couldn’t decide on a QB and hurt both with an odd rotation. Can’t stop the run. Can’t defend the pass. It’s a nothingburger on the sidelines each Saturday.

Grade: F

  1. SC’s running back said that ASU was stacking the box, said it is hard to run against that.

Harrell isn’t making the QB calls, he has said that playing them here and there doesn’t allow them to get into a rhythm.

Does anyone have faith in Bohn to get the right coach ?

Does anyone have faith that Folt won’t interfere with the process ?

      1. Caruso might be the guy who calls for Folt’s head (“Bring Me the Head of Alfreda Folt!” starring Jennifer Lopez) in an attempt to win back the Coliseum vote.

      1. Yes, just on the USC list…’67 used the “in the country” phrase…if we go there, it’s a very, very long list…hopefully I won’t be deemed a “criminal” for stating that…but since you haven’t “disappeared” yet, guess I should be okay for a bit!

      2. In today’s world “Disappearance” is a badge of honor, James….

      4. Cal 75 would know. I hope he explains what’s going on to us —better yet I hope old Pudly returns. I love that guy.

    1. They’re weren’t stacking the box at all. They were dropping 8 into coverage and occasionally blitzing out of it. What everyone who complains about Slovis holding the ball misses is no one’s open! USC has 5 RB/WRs in the pattern max and everyone who drops 8 has 8 defenders to cover those 5. It’s not complicated.

  2. Without satisfactory play from the O line and D line, there can be no passing grade for anyone. D line is an F, O line is an F, and that impacts all other grades.

How did the secondary get a C+? Way too high, but again, without a pass rush, they can’t be expected to stick to a guy with a QB having all the time in the world.

Bohn – go out and find an HC who can recruit great linemen on both sides and who will hire assistants who will really coach them.

    1. Think about the last 3 head coaches SC hired on a full time basis, ALL QB’s.

It’s time to hire a coach with a defensive background as in Aranda and hell at this point I’d take Fickell but he’s not a fav of mine

    2. …Maybe Scott didn’t watch the same Special Teams unit I did — the one fielding booming kicks hitting at the 7 yard line instead of letting them go into endzone (to give USC shitty field position) —and then loping down the field so that balls which could be downed at the 7 yard line of Arizona State came out to the 20 (starting Arizona State off on their next drive)…..

  3. Scooter,

the only thing that was a B grade was the fox on the field. The entire team flunked. Even the bus driver flunked. He should have kept driving past the stadium and into Tucson. Sc would forfeit 2-0 and we the fans would not have to see the misery on tv. When does this end?

    1. Pasadena, it could end very soon. Or we could be caught in an infinite loop of more horrendous decisions by administrators who are incompetent and who don’t understand the history of USC

      1. trojan1967,

Ity could be USC’s Buller’s Day off. And that dude who was Buller is Bohn Bohn. “Oh Mercy Nurse”. Thank you Tom Kelly for that quote. Then after Bohn Bon and Dolt are gone, then SC hires another set of nothings and they hire another nothing coach. Buller’s Day off again. It will never end. AAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!

      2. USC needs to be put into receivership, total do-over, and then we can get back on track. Flush the BOT, the imposter Folt, et. al. I worry in the absence of doing that, we will just see more of the same.

      3. 67 –Do you realize if a group of insiders & donors went to the California Secretary of State with a bill of particulars detailing how poorly the University is being run –there is a possibility the place WOULD be placed in receivership?

One other F – ASU wearing those atrocious all yellow uniforms…only thing that hasn’t been violated (although I know they considered it/are considering it), at least since that one awful year back under Smith (92 or 93?).

  5. The team is disorganized and may not make a bowl game. The football stands are half-empty and fan enthusiasm is at an all-time low. Mike Bohn and Carol Folt are responsible for this lost season and sad state of affairs and their incompetence is on full display for the country to see.

Just in my Beserkley, USC has won the game due to forfeiture by CAL.
    Nice!!
Just got 3 hours extra in my life not to freak out about the shitty USC football experience.
