USC usually has its press conferences to introduce a new coach on campus.
But Lincoln Riley will be unveiled in the Scholarship Club Tower at the Coliseum.
And guess who will be there? Carol Folt. Success has many fathers, as they say.
Maybe it’s in the Coliseum Tower because USC wants to get its money’s worth from the new structure after so few people used it this past season.
Please, Carol —no minis until all contracts have been signed and witnessed.

Scott,
It’s OK to just play this one straight and say Bohn and all involved did a great job. Save the snarky takes for when they are deserved.

Bohn has forever redeemed himself from his image as “the guy who propped up Helton.” All respect to him for pulling this off. [But I honestly didn’t notice one negative word about Bohn in Scott’s post]…..

Agreed. I was pretty unhappy with the guy since he was hired, but I’m an alumni of Los Alamitos high, USC, and UT Austin.
In one move he scored a huge victory for all 3 schools. The Los al studs get to have their parents at all their games, usc gets a coach who can coach and recruit, and ou sucks again
Who knows, maybe Lincoln Riley will fail, we need to see some games, but bohn did his job and got one of the most successful coaches of the cfp era.

Since the hire have you heard any attaboy’s from Scott? Nope, he’s still a wank.

That would’ve been fitting advice for Scottie Pippen as well. #NoBull

And now we’re back to the Wolf we know…being negative about everything, even when it’s good news.

Scooter,
A scoop for you would be to check in on Oklahoma and see if they have a a USC vodoo doll. With USC destorying them in the championship game and getting Riley, I don’t think they are too happy with USC.
LikeLiked by 1 person
No, they aren’t too happy today …in fact, according to multiple reports they’re mostly suicidal….

Have you ever been to Oklahoma? It’s a nice flat state. Very nice people. Suicidal at the moment.

Might be better to have the press conference at Texas Tech University with the connection it has to USC now:
1) Lincoln Riley
2) Seth Doerge – USC current tight end coach
3) Graham Harrell
4) Almost Cliff Kingbury
5) Mike Jinks- Long time Tech running back coach.
All good ol’ boys from West Texas. All offensive guy let’s hope Lincoln Riley stresses defense.
Most are all former QB at Texas Tech………..all played or coached under Mike Leach. The Red Raider was their TTmascot, and he rode a black horse which is quite symbolic.

Purge #3, he’s done enough here, please leave. #4 annulled. #2 and #5 are far less culpable than most USC coaches. #1, return us to national prominence, no pressure; and I’m glad you’re here.

Can’t wait for Riley to recruit all those 5 stars ! You know, WR’s, RB’s, QB’s.
OL&DL ? Fuck that.

You know what would be great today? Drake London attends the presser and says he can’t wait to be part of Trojan Football 2022! And Keaontay Ingram sez he feels the same way]!

Totally agree. Interior linemen on both sides of the ball are obvious deficiencies with the current situation. He is bringing Grinch for the D with him and he knows that we suck on the line. Give him a chance. This guy is a huge upgrade and Bohn did what nobody thought had in him.

SC needs five linemen that are four star and above and five linemen that have the same ranking, four lbers with the same ratings, 3 dbs, 3 receivers, 2 qbs, and a rb. Need to rebuild the lines. That is where the game is won.

Here is where we need to give Lincoln some time to bring in his coaches and his recruits. This program needs a complete tear down and repair. He’ll need a top quality DC and 2 years to get the culture where it needs to be. Now that we have a proven coach, Scottie and the rest of us need to moderate the snark and allow the team to grow.

I’m with you 100%, calabasas — but I also want to be clear: I don’t regret any of the criticism of Haden, Swann or Helton…

100% agree. Without the criticism and the boycott of games, this administration would not have acted. It took the huge loss of revenue from a near empty coliseum (I know I was there in Saturday and there were more BYU fans than SC fans), for the powers to act. At the game, we were all speculating that it was Mart Campbell that was going to be introduced today. I must tip my hat to Bohn. He far exceeded my low expectations. BTW, where is JustOwns?

He’s had some success with the transfer portal in the past – some of them even won heismans.
I’m sure he knows the sc defense was historically awful this year.

When my wife told me yesterday we were getting Riley, my reaction was “WTF? That old retread?” And she said “no, Lincoln Riley, not Mike Riley.”

Graham Harrell- retained, and will become the new defensive coordinator.
Part 1 is probably true Lincoln Riley was one of his coaches at Texas Tech. Part 2 no way that happens.
I would make Harrell – the passing game coordinator/qb coach only. He knows nothing about the running game.

I’m not being snarky (according to some, we all have to preface our remarks with this apology for past behavior): Harrell doesn’t have what it takes to be in charge of the passing game either. Our receivers need more discipline in running their routes –and discipline isn’t exactly Harrell’s long suit…..

Everything Harrell does is a big mistake. If he couldnt fix his own offense, why would Riley retain him? Harrell needs to go work for a small team in the midwest at a fraction of the USC salary and learn his craft the hard way.
Very glad that Riley is bringing his receivers coach. There was something wrong (either Colbert or Harrell) with the receivers. (other than Drake London).
Is it possible to get London back for another year to bolster his NFL draft position and win the Heisman?

Not likely this year but I would love it. My guess is Saban grabs him and resurrects his career.

Failure to recruit o-linemen was a Helton problem, not a genetic predisposition for people who hailed from Texas.

If it’s as it appears, and money isn’t an issue when it comes to hiring staff, then there’s a simple yes/no question to be asked when it comes to retaining any holdover coaches. If the answer is yes, keep em. If no, pink slip em:
Q. Are they the best available?
A. No. Not a one.

Ordinarily, when folks offer black & white solutions my ‘go to’ line is “things are a bit more complicated than that” —but not this time. You’re on the money, boxisbento.

Just saying it here= Graham Harrell and Lincoln Riley go way back together at Texas Tech. Riley, was one of his coaches so you have to figure unfortunately he will be on his staff at SC

If SC is smart, they will bring in Malachi Nelson and maybe Devon Brown rather than going with a more experienced QB who transfers in. You don’t want to mess with Jackson Dart. If he stays healthy, he’s going to be a great QB. Maybe let Spencer Rattler transfer in but go with Dart

All I can say it is is so nice to think of a press conference without Clay Helton lying his butt off! Was anything Clay said truthful?
All Hail the conquering Bohn! (and Sosna). I eat lots of crow by questioning whether they had screwed up this hire. The subterfuge to keep the spotlight off Riley, when this was planned a while ago, was brilliant.

well, ticket sales will be back to normal, ’cause SC football will back to what it used to be when coached by real football coaches, not the 3rd rate hellton stuff…
Looks like the world of coaching is going through a 1970’s LA EARTHQUAKE mode…when the dust settles it will be interesting.
