Sunday Notes: USC Narrowly Loses To Cal

The NCAA men’s water polo championship was today and USC narrowly lost to Cal, 13-12 in Westwood.

USC led 12-11 with 2:29 left but Cal tied it and then scored the winning goal with 28 seconds remaining.

  • Linebacker David Bailey of Mater Dei committed to Stanford over USC late Saturday night. Linebacker is one of those positions USC needs help, like offensive and defensive line.
  • This quote from Mike Bohn at Monday’s press conference for Lincoln Riley seems a lot more interesting today.

“Many thanks to Todd and Drew Turner and Craig Littlepage and the entire College Sports Associates team for their expert support on background checks, confidential character references, social media audits and other critical information.”

    1. Yes he most definitely did say way too much. 99 out of 100 would have just said “Todd and Drew and …of College Sports Associates provided expert support with out search process.”

Sounds like Haden didnt use Todd and Drew when they vetted Sark…

      1. I was facetious about the sark vetting. It would have taken less than an hour to find about Sark’s issue. And Haden was too f’ing lazy to do it.

    2. I agree but look at what happens when you fly by the seat of your pants (Haden) and don’t get the full scoop Ie Sark at UDub and you step in a pile of dog crap.

      1. Speaking strictly to Mr. Charles R. Smith, anybody (Sark included) who can down 18 shots and still stand-and-talk, sounds like SC Football coaching material to me.

    1. Forget Red not passing one of these background checks, karma. Patton wouldn’t make it. Caravaggio wouldn’t make it. Martin Luther King wouldn’t make it.

  1. So who’s going to snap up joe Brady? Just released by the panthers. A 5-7 team who now are down to their 3rd string qb due to injury and missing the most productive athlete in the league out for the season and only played 2 games this year. So the dude can still coach but I’d say 5-7 in the league with no bodies is not that bad. Some one needs to jump on that fast. Wunderkin back on the market

    1. Hopefully LR and Bohn already made a call to his agent, about his interest in joining the staff. They need the best coaches they can get out there right now. Non of the crap coaches clay Helton and Bohn hired to make things worse.

      1. You could tell by his eyes he was concussed —-but being a warrior he didn’t stay on the ground –he got up (he may have needed some help but he got up–and believe me that’s hard to do when you’re seeing double)…

  3. Get this lousy coaching and recruiting staff out of here. Pink slip Monday should be coming tomorrow. Then the purging of the players that don’t want to be here anymore with their efforts and attitudes. House cleaning couldn’t come soon enough. Bohn and Carol are still clowns even with the hiring of Lincoln Riley.

    1. The Purge will be epic in scale

Lincoln Riley will clean house of the lazy unmotivated coaches and thugs who can’t bother to show up for games

Bring in a real solid white Bill Bedenbaugh to rebuild our trenches with white all American strength

Donte “Thug” Wilkins – don’t let the door hit you on the way out

  4. Congrats to the Utes – hope they stick it to the buckeyes.

ucla got a bad draw – holiday bowl – maybe 30,000 will show – and they have to play NC State – who beat Clemson, and lost to Miami by 1 and to Wake Forest by 3.

Lucky for chip there is a great donut shop in North San Diego County (Leucadia I believe) – famous in fact – their holiday business is going to skyrocket.

      1. 90% of what is discussed here is personnel speculation (players, coaches, admin). Take away that and the site dries up. But I am all for starting new topics.

      2. Great post 67! What is the answer? This has been a pure “let it ride!” blog. That’s been part of the fun. No one here has any inside news. Yet this site ‘works’ better & is livelier than any of the rest —and we do it without bringing facts into the discussion [Well Pudly did — but look at what happened –he burned out —object lesson for the rest of us? —is it maybe better to sail through life by the seat of your pants? maybe the best we can do is promise each other not to bring undue hate to the site and spend a full 15 seconds contemplating our posts before we press ‘send’? ]……

  5. Just so everybody knows what Helton directly & indirectly accomplished this year…
USC started the year as CBS’s 12th ranked college football team…
We finished the year ranked 82nd. Eighty Second!

    1. Michael, it was a disaster of a season. Worst I have seen. And you just put it in black and white. But if it meant getting Riley as HC, then I am at peace with it. And hats off to Bohn for getting the dolt on board. We could have done much worse. And by not keeping McGuire as O line coach, this might mean Riley is negotiating with the OU O line coach, one of the best in the biz.

      1. I firmly believe we’re gonna put am ENTIRELY different [and FAR better] product on the field next year. Remember these kids went through hell in 2021 cuz of Folt, Bohn and especially Helton —- they can & will play up to their considerable talent levels with the right coaching…

      2. btw — That goof who keeps saying we’re racists cuz we don’t care if USC keeps Donte or not —what does he think about the fact we’ve been calling for one way tickets outta town for Folt, Bohn and Helton for the last 3 years?

  6. A coach doesn’t have to be a perfect person if they win games:
Ulysses S. Grant liked whiskey a lot. When someone complained about his favorite general’s drinking, President Abraham Lincoln was said to have quipped, “I wish some of you would tell me the brand of whiskey that Grant drinks. I would like to send a barrel of it to my other generals.”

    1. Today that Lincoln joke would be streamlined as such:

That Grant is one heck of a general, and I understand he likes a drink or two.
Well, whatever he is drinking I want some of it, and I will make sure
my other generals have some too.

    2. Lincoln was just praying for a Union General who would take the fight to the Confederates/Lee.

Took 2+ years but he found them in Grant, Sherman, and Meade.

Well it is 8 a.m. now in L.A.
    So it is 5 a.m. in MG-land
So let me see at which hour he responds:

MG writes about “Inhaling helium and
swallowing a half tab of LSD;”

    –I never tried it

    What’s it like, MG?

and the chap here that supports them. As I always say
‘Better to be a Cal Bear than a sucla Mini-Bear,’
    although I prefer neither.

That was a joke! Please do not take me seriously– ever.
