Caleb Williams attended the Rams and Lakers games on Sunday, which grabbed all the attention on social media.
But what is going on with USC’s current starting QB, Jaxson Dart?
I spoke to several sources within the football program over the weekend and they said Dart is already looking at colleges for a potential transfer . . . in case Williams transfers to USC.
This makes sense because Dart cannot sit for two years behind Williams.
But even though Williams is a game-changing QB, it would still be a shame if Dart left. He came to USC with no intention of leaving after the season ended but would be forced out if the talented Williams becomes a Trojan.
Quarterbacks leaving is a daily occurrence now but Dart actually doesn’t want to leave. This is the world of the transfer portal, for better or worse.
I can imagine Kedon Slovis telling Dart, “You better get out if they get Williams.”
And no one is mentioning him, but I imagine Miller Moss (who showed potential against Cal) has a Plan B if Williams arrives too.
I hate losing Dart. But Riley is under no obligation to not bring in Williams because Dart is there. Riley didn’t recruit Dart. The transfer portal does need to be adjusted but it does have some advantages for the players. If the school changes coaches, the players should have a way out since the new coach wasn’t part of their plans when they signed their LOI.

This NIL is going to ruin college football. It’s all about money now. The teams with the most money to spend are the teams that win big. I read that Texas A&M spent $30 million on this current class of recruits. Apparently the coaches let the donors know the players that they want and then the donors write up an NIL contract with those players for the money. The money comes on a yearly basis. If you leave one year early, you lose 1/4 of your money. If you hit the transfer portal after one year, you lose 3/4 of your money. You can’t believe everything that you read on the internet and I can’t prove that this is true but I believe it. I must ask myself how Texas A&M could all of a sudden comes up with the greatest recruiting class ever. In the last 5 years they have been 48-24. That’s good but not great. All of a sudden every 5 star on the planet wants to go to A&M? Texas is another one that spends a lot of money on their program.

I’m not in favor of the portal [in principal] but you have to admit it’s become God’s gift to USC in the wake of Helton. USC and Riley would be in serious trouble without it…..

So speculation is that the rich football schools are now buying players with NIL contracts, and Saban said Young got a million bucks. This is worse than the NFL where their draft is designed to maintain equilibrium throughout the league
I don’t watch many football games, but I have to see if Georgia can really break through the Saban&Alabama circus, which is taking on mythical proportions.
But the game will not be as exciting as yesterday afternoon as I am casually driving on an L.A. freeway when all of a sudden a passing motorcyclist hit a pothole or something, lost his balance, and his bike collided into my car.
Traffic stopped immediately as he and the bike went flying by the front of my vehicle and 4 lanes of traffic to the freeway shoulder
I thought I had gotten my first kill.
But unbelievably, he was ok with only a cut hand, and when I asked him, “What happened” he retorted “You changed lanes,” to which I said, “No, you crashed into me.” There were witnesses present who backed me up, but I thought, ‘Welcome to L.A., where no one admits fault in an accident.’
Geez, and we wonder why there are lawyers.

Glad there were witnesses. Glad no one was killed…..

Say what, I just learned SUCC lost its final 2021 FB game to Cal 24 – 14. OUCH!
Just think MG, during 2021 CFB season the Rah-Rah’s were dreaming of a 10 – 2 FB season, even though it might give Helton another year as HC.
Oh well, Riley has a lot of work to rehab the 4-8 Clownster’s.
Ah, ding, ding.

It has worked to SC’s advantage and it does have some advantages for those who have had the coaches that recruited them leave. But otherwise, it has its problems.

It’s gunna ruin how we are accustomed to experiencing it. And stuff like that changes ALL the time in life.
When looking at it from the workers’ standpoint it is enhancing it

williams will be gone after next yr regardless where he plays this coming season…I do not think he necessarily will beat Dart as starter.

If Caleb comes to USC, starting will be part of the deal, Tim. And he won’t be competing against Dart cuz Dart will be long gone —which is too bad.

well then Riley is a liar, competition is not open …I don’t see williams as great as others do,but I do see Dart with more long term potential, hope he is a fighter, not a coward and takes on challenges.

There WILL be a ‘technical’ competition IF Dart stays —which Dart could ‘theretically’ win —-but I wouldn’t bet on it….

And yet, it is sort of beside the point. It’s truly a miracle for the workers errrr players that they actually can have choice now. Dart doesn’t want to be in that situation for his position, so he is exercising his power.
So many more players now will get chances

Maybe I’m wrong but he has to play 2 more years in order to enter the pros. In college football, you have to be there at least 3 seasons

Now, now MG, let’s be truthful, SUCC Real Estate Sales Associate program credits don’t transfer to Yale, Harvard, or Columbia.

Lincoln Riley wants a true duel threat QB. This is the key element of his offense, and what has been lacking a USC for a long time. Dart, will be a fine QB in the right system like BYU, or Utah in two years so I respect his decision if he wants to leave. Lincoln Riley wants to win now, and does not want to wait for a QB to develop if he can get Caleb Williams.
The NCAA needs to stand up to the NBA, and NFL who are ruining college athletics. Kids want the money, and are not worried about a college degree. Many would transfer every year to get where they want to be in pros if they could.

I’m gonna enjoy it when the NCAA writes a rule allowing players to transfer AND start elsewhere on a weekly basis…..

Wow. Thanks for the reminder, Charles. When you add up career ending arm injuries (Slovis and Barkley) and transfers (Wittick, Sears, Daniels) and early departures (Sam and Sanchez), USC is like Death Valley for Quarterbacks

So Slovis finally bailed? I am shocked! Almost as shocked that Andyain’twinning received a contract extension. Once again, Auld Andrew fattens up his 2021-22 W/L record with cream puffs and cupcakes.

Dart should seriously consider staying–at least through Spring Ball. Williams was not exactly lights out against Baylor (in fact he was not good), and this new USC team still has issues with the o-line. Riley should be making sure he has a good backup ready to play when Williams either struggles or gets hurt. There’s always opportunity–just look as what happened with Slovis went down.

It sure would be nice to have them both —but I think the days of talented players waiting “for an opportunity to arise” when they haven’t been named starter….are over….

Don’t forget Malachi Nelson is coming in 2023. He will be rated the No.1 QB in the Country once he arrives at USC. This guy is a stud- tall, fast, great throwing arm………… We wil be set at QB……and really loaded with WR’s. and TE’s.
The question is can Lincoln Riley bring in some offensive lineman, defensive linemen, and linebackers who can play physical football. If he can get this done we can win as early as next season with Caleb Williams.
I am hopeful Bru McCoy, and Kenan Christon return. McCoy is a a very physical wide receiver who I think has potential to also become a very physical outside linebackers where he also played in High School.

Dart is bigger, 6’4 220 plus, and faster (his range of 40s were faster), and prob has better arm talent. He’s also a gamer when everything is down, fighting when there’s nothing… and a proven leader, was in the time of division and absence of leadership, splits regionally and by coaches… And he’s also part of a pipeline of talent of schools in the West that SC needs (and has to rebuild confidence in).
If you bring in Caleb you are sending a message that there’s no real competition, there’s empire building not rebuilding SC; and for kids it is deepening the idea that there is no loyalty but just selfishness and pure self interest and all the focus being on the “next level” and not USC… And that’s a continuation of all that was wrong before… But keep on cheering on Air Raid Part III and Harrell and Todd Orlando II, and HC under a slicker or new package (one sold hugs, another flash but so did Kiff).
You would think “Coach Bohn” would step in to make sure he protects the program, not just this but in general. Most coaches are self interested, careerists, self-promotional, looking at their next move before they take the move where they are… especially today (and I guess you can’t blame them). One of the things that Bohn had right was that he seemed to recognize, and all ADs should, is that coaches come and go, but his job is to make sure that the culture of the program and the broad decisions are made for USC.

Anyone who thinks that Dart is better qb than Caleb Williams just doesn’t know football. Dart couldn’t last an entire game. Williams took the job of a Heisman candidate in a tougher conference.
