Saturday Buzz: Mario Williams To USC

A big shoe dropped today as former Oklahoma wide receiver Mario Williams committed to USC.

It has to be just a matter of time before Caleb Williams also commits to USC.

The offense is fine. The defense? Well . . .

Meanwhile, Oklahoma is trying to engineer a double-trade with USC as Jaxson Dart and Michael Trigg visited yesterday. The pair are at Mississippi today.

      1. Michael; Be a bit wary. This reminds me of Charlie (what do you mean we need an Oline) Weis at ND. But it is certainly an upgrade. The ND-USC game in two years could be two top 4 teams!

      2. Actually I AM more than a bit wary, NDgrad (I just remember Arthur C. Clarke saying something about how “exhibiting wariness is a sign of weakness”)….

      1. Most of the articles have been taken down. Not a great sign, right?
Grayson Weir’s is still up: “Former OU QB Williams has signed with USC, per sources. Expect an announcement as soon as Monday.”

  1. Regarding defense, new coordinator Grinch was hired by Urban Meyer at Ohio State before Riley hired him away from OSU for Oklahoma. USC gets perhaps the best corner and one of the best safeties next year in Domani Jackson and Branch. Raejon Davis and Foreman should be much improved, plus there is Tui. Not like the cupboard is bare.

      1. Mike, you are right on. I watched the highlights of 7 various OU games on Utube, and throughout, the Oline consistently caved in causing those runs by Caleb he was running for his life 40% of the game much like Darnold had to.
People whining because we didn’t get OU OLine Coach Bedenbaugh are unfounded, I think Josh Henson will be a superior OC/OL coach. His OLine at aTm performed very well.
OU’s DLine outperformed their OLine all through their season.

I’m a little concerned with the continuing Calab Williams drama, worried his Daddy trying to play a diva coup to squeeze Riley for some big NIL dollars for his Super Son QB.

Miller Moss just might be quite capable for Riley’s offense, he put Three QB’s in the National Limelight and conversation and Dart could be wooed back if need be.

      2. I saw a story on Caleb making a video of himself in a Trojan uniform –there was a photo supposedly taken from the video attached — but the article and the photo have been taken down. Not a great sign.

  2. Give me a D!!!! Give me an E!!! Give me an F!!! Give me another E!!! Do you see where I’m going with this. I’d hate to see us put 50 points on the board every week in order to have to win a game.

  3. The CFB sportswriters, which are east of the Mississippi for the most part, are biased against the West Coast and USC specifically. Lincoln Riley is methodically restoring USC football pride. CFP not out of the question in 2022.

    1. They aren’t sniffing the playoffs and I’m a lifelong fan. It’s not happening. No PAC12 team is until they dial it back to 8 conference games a year. I’ll bet you think Trump is about to be reinstated or is still really President and that Newsom is actually a clone and the real one was executed at GITMO after his military tribunal.

  4. Come on guys. Get a grip. USC isn’t going to world beater’s next year. Football doesn’t work that kind of a time frame. Pete Carroll went 6-6 his fist year w/ a junior QB who went on to win the Heisman and be the #1 pick in the draft.

    1. USC QB’s over the past 20 years with a productive NFL career: Palmer

OU/Riley QB’s over the past 3 years with productive NFL career: Mayfield, Murray, Hurts

  5. Down 16 at the half b/c Enfield never adjusts the way he plays and the other coaches have caught on and now how to defend against USC. They all watched the Gonzaga tape. That was the blueprint to wreck USC’s offense. It’s not complicated.

  6. Oregon big gorilla type big men intimidated USC inside throughout the entire game. Issiah White should be getting more playing time he is aggressive inside. The downfall of USC this year is 1) Free Throw Shooting and 2) Their Big Guards cannot defend the perimeter against smaller quicker guards specifically Drew Peterson.

This teams is good, but not good enough to win the Pac 12…We are probably looking at a 4th or 5th place finish behind Arizona, UCLA, Oregon, and in the mix with Colorado, and Stanford.

  7. USC is better than UCLA. That can’t really be disputed. Isaiah White has or is coming back from a back injury. Even before he was hurt he wasn’t meaningfully contributing. Also, calling Oregon’s bigs gorillas is wildly racist. I’ll note that to your file.

  8. With Riley the upside is very high, not so with Enfield. His so far weaker schedule has flattered his results. He can’t even teach them to hit better free throws

  9. Guaranteed, if and when Caleb Williams commits to SC, Scott will start off his post trying to downplay it by writing, “AS EXPECTED, Caleb Williams committed to USC today”.

Youz guyz could have done a lot worse than Mr Bohn. [ Think of his predecessor(s)]. Bohn just doesn’t have the proto typical SC looks or stature. Haden did. Swann did.

    1. I hope Scott’s doing well too. [Understanding for what Scott is handling and appreciation for what he delivers usually lasts for about 24 hours when he returns from a hiatus….then it’s back to comments about how he shouldn’t have said this or that]….
