USC Notes: New Lineman Offered And Another Caleb Williams Pursuer

USC quickly offered offensive guard Chris Akporoghene of Tennessee, once he entered the transfer portal.

But he hasn’t played a lot recently. Akporoghene played in one game last season for the Vols. He played in four games in 2020 but just eight offensive snaps. That’s not a lot of film to evaluate. But USC needs linemen.

  • Wisconsin is making a strong push for Caleb Williams, according to this report. With the NFL supposedly the main priority in Williams’ decision, I wonder how the Badgers answer that one? Russell Wilson, I guess.
  • USC commit Kijani Wright of Sierra Canyon has been selected for the McDonald’s All-American game. USC commit Aaliyah Gayles of Las Vegas was selected to the girls’ game.

  1. Two schools:

    1) Jax is the horse to ride…he’s only doctor shopping in response to the Williams sit-com. End it all, keep him in Cardinal & Gold and ride that horse.

    2) being a Trojan no longer matters…so let’s buy Hessian mercenaries like the OU QB who won’t be at University Park long enough to learn the words to Fight On!

    1. I am starting to feel that we should stick with Dart. I think Dart just feels alot more like a leader for this team and a guy who will get the USC fans pumped to support him.

      1. Caleb Williams is proving that he’s gonna be more trouble than he’s worth. I remember Pete Carroll thinking he’d be unbeatable if he got the hugely talented Percy Harvin playing for the Seahawks. Harvin delivered as a player —no one could ever deny he was a special. But he was also a cancer who destroyed team morale. Pete reluctantly saw the light and let him go before he ruined the good thing Pete had going up in Seattle.

  2. Maybe they see something in this tennessee lineman that we don’t know about. Other than that, he was just a 3 star coming out of high school and didn’t play much in college. As far as Wilson is concerned, he only played one year at Wisconsin and he was already a star when he got there. He had already thrown for 8,000 yards at NC when he came to the Badgers.

    1. Akporoghene is an outstanding player. Watch his video on YouTube. And –not that it matters a ton —he’s as highly ranked in Phil Steele’s “O-Line Unit” ranking as any guard on our present roster.

      1. I watched the video on this guy. He’s not the quickest guy in the world. I would not put him at left tackle. That’s what he played in high school. The better edge rushers would eat him alive. But the guy is powerful. He’s a beast. I’d put him on defense on the interior of the defensive line. I was watching him on defense. He disrupts plays by pushing the O-Lineman into the backfield. I remember a guy named Peae(I think that is how you spelled his last name) from Oregon State when Kiffin was coach. They lost to OSU because no matter what they did(double team, trap or whatever), they couldn’t keep him out of the backfield and he was disrupting all of their plays. He looks like he would probably excell on the interior of the defensive line.

      2. I think they’re planning on putting all 310 pounds of him at right guard —alongside that new right tackle we’re getting (whose name I’m blanking on)…

      1. What makes everyone think Dart could even be had. I would think there would have to be some serious ass kissing to get him to come back. I think it is possible but not highly probable.

    1. Yeah….that probably qualifies them as a QB producing program…..one QB in the last 60 years who never played much in the NFL or Canadian Football League.

    2. Michael
Right Guard would be good. I just wouldn’t put him on the outside. But I would seriously consider the interior defensive line especially nose guard. This guy doesn’t try to go around you or outquick you(he’s not quick enough). He just bull rushes you and goes right over you. That could work at right guard on offense. If you push that D-Lineman back to where the LB’s play, that run will probably gain some yards. But I’d like to see them get a D-Lineman who can disrupt plays because they can’t keep him out of the backfield. I don’t think that we have had that in recent years.

  3. If Williams doesn’t declare by this weekend, then you would expect LR to look elsewhere. If he doesn’t, I would have to wonder if he knows something that the rest of us don’t know

  4. Caleb’s father loves cheese, and part of the deal is free cheese for the family for the next 10 years plus 3 brand snowmobiles, and a residential snow plow for the family. I am sure this offer is hard to pass up for the Williams family.

I heard UCLA only offered Caleb’s family two free UCLA season tickets, and free parking at the Rose Bowl for all UCLA events held there. I also heard Cheeseburger Chip took the entire Williams family for dinner at the In and Out burger by the airport needless to say they were not impressed.

  5. I can lay this squarely at Ed and Own’s feet. They kept asking for linemen. What did you expect? So now we have linemen Thanks Own’s… I mean that sincerely.

  6. Caleb the narcissistic jerk is not going to Wisconsin. He is playing a game with everyone so that when he finally announces for USC, the fans will be on their knees thanking the Gods for delivering this Prima Dona jerk to us. Remember last week he was going to LSU where the fake southern accent fraud and noted developer of QB resides. Now it’s between USC and a school that hands the ball to the running back 80 times a game. Yeah right. Stop reacting every time this jerk throws out the name of another school. Hopefully this bullshit will come to an end in another 72 hours.

      1. My wife and I just finished watching season 2 of Cheer* on Netflix.
I rather prefer this ongoing Caleb drama to that staged reality TV stuff on Netflix.

*Not CheerS–the Woody Harrelson/Ted Danson show.

      2. Someday watch the mock documentary Josh Brolin directed of “The Making Of No Country For Old Men” — Woody Harrelson is at his best.
[After the way Caleb has punked Riley for the last month we’re gonna have nothing but trouble if he winds up at USC —he’ll think he gets to call the shots all season]…

  7. If Caleb doesn’t sign by this weekend, then the only other QB they could go after(if they want him to participate in spring practice) is Dart. If Caleb doesn’t sign, then that is what they should do. Let Caleb go where he wants. I think that is what is keeping Dart to sign with Mississippi right now. He’s waiting to see what the scene will be this saturday.

    1. Yes. Male husky fans get boners watching QB’s with purple nail polish.

      1. Not to be fussy, MG, but did you think it was necessary to point out that it was male husky fans that get the boners?

Or as a comedian once exclaimed, “If I am going to the bathroom and the air conditioning happens to strike my ding-a-ling I will get a hard-on.”

  8. Bobby Engram from the Baltimore Ravens will be the next OC for Wisconsin. If Williams wants that then bless his heart. It would not surprise me if Riley gets someone other than Dart or Caleb. Just Sayin . . .

  9. I hope Riley has a hard deadline for Caleb and just goes with Dart if there is no decision by that date. I actually would much rather root for Dart than for Caleb, I just think Dart represents the spirit of Troy better. I know that Caleb has better running abilities, but Riley is smart enough to build an offense around Dart’s capabilities.

I also really like that Moss is being the loyal USC player. He should be rewarded with lots of playing time, even if it is not as the starter. I think that Moss will stay at USC for 2 years, get his degree and then transfer as a grad student to another school and be the starter. And the training he gets from Riley will make him a great QB.

Hopefully some more talent comes our way this week.
