USC Morning Buzz: Adventures At Galen Center

About once a season, I muster the desire to sit courtside at the Galen Center.

I do it for a couple reasons:

It was a genuinely moving sight to see USC forward Chevez Goodwin as he walked out of the tunnel to the court in tears for the Senior Salute. And it also burns up Andy “Thanks” Enfield.

Last night’s game was great in terms of the finish. Not-so-great with USC shooting 40 percent.

After Boogie Ellis hit the game-winning shot and everyone celebrated the Trojans’ 62-60 victory, Enfield walked toward my seat. He pointed to someone behind me and said, “Thanks for coming.”

Enfield then pointed at me and said, “Thanks for coming.”

How nice!

But then as he walked away, my friend who had never been to a USC game or heard me speak of Enfield, turned to me and said, “Did you hear him call you an (obscenity) before he left the court?”

No, I didn’t hear it with the crowd noise, band, DJ, etc.

But I texted a source inside the program: “It always burns him up when he sees you.”

With that, my friends and I were given something to laugh about the rest of the night.

Thanks, Enfield!

      1. 3 possibilities of ‘Wolfgate’–
It never happened accept in Scottie’s imagination

        It happened but was embellished

It happened exactly the way Scott said it did. If so, Enfield could have handled it better by deflectively saying something like, “Hey Mr. Wolf, I hear you are not writing about me anymore. I must be doing something right.”

  1. Friends equals your mom and Own’s your imaginary friend. As always your objective reporting is welcome on USC basketball. So “INSIDE” USC rarely ever attends Basketball games. LOL. THANKS SCOOTER!

  2. My friend, sitting on the other side of the wolfman, said Andy called him a “Fuc*ing idiot”. Wolfman had a smile on his face from ear to ear after finally being acknowledged by someone from the athletic dept……..(shameless)

      1. I would have posted this under Ed’s comment, but I was afraid of a further rebuke, and so I am using MG because he is friendly fire. But did you notice that Scottie is going after Ed’s title of ‘who is the most obscure-and-obtuse?”

Scott writes “But I texted a source inside the program” ‘It always burns him up when he sees you.'”–

Huh? Sees who– you, me, us? Who’s on first?

  3. This piece will be one you will likely regret you ever wrote.

Who can blame anyone for rescinding your media credentials?

What happened to humble Wolf after that recent medical issue?

Given USC basketball history, this is a year to rejoice and celebrate. Not too many teams have won 23 games.

    Thanks Enfield!!

    No thanks narcissistic Wolf!!

    2. Well that’s not a very American take! USC will never pull his credentials as it’d make them look like the perpetually butt-hurt whiners they truly are. What I don’t understand is why it’s so wrong to critique USC if you’re a “fan.”

Enfield is a terrible coach and is wildly unlikeable. Ask anyone that knows basketball and ask anyone that’s spent any time around him.

  4. If true that is so lame by Enfield and betrays a serious character flaw and impediment to being a world class leader. Let him walk and hire another Gonzaga assistant like AZ did – you don’t punk The Wolfman in front of a friend. I like what Enfield has done for the program but this is a zero class move by him that I hope Bohner doesn’t tolerate from someone in such a crucial position of leadership. An employee of the university addressing a degree holding alum in such a fashion is unacceptable.

      1. If that’s true, Scott has published a falsehood which put Andy in a bad light. Andy has a lawsuit.

    1. Andy was just following Carol’s example —when a student asked her a tough question at Galen she called him a “jerk.”

    1. I take it you are a very casual fan and don’t really understand basketball. It was a tie game, we were going to win it or go to OT. He spread the floor and put the ball in his best playmakers hands. If help came Boogie would kick to shooter. Literally every coach in the country runs the exact same end of game action, especially when it is a tied score.

Also, WSU did nothing to get the ball out of his hands and decided to go down with man defense and no real help or double. We never needed to see if there was a second or third action drawn up in timeout, which there always is. It was coached and executed perfectly.

  5. Taking my son and 3 of his buddies to westwood next weekend for brubabes game. Hope Scottie doesn’t show up there to throw Andy off his sideline instructions. Victory margins are getting really thin.

  8. Wolfgate marks the end of Andy E. I really hope this doesn’t become a distraction for the team. What an idiot you are Enfield to project your own insecurities.

Wolfman obviously got an A in his Psych GE courses, while Enfield stopped at the Freudian Anal stage.

  9. Coach Enfield (if he did relay such an utterance) is 100% spot on. You are an %$*&hole most of the time, glass almost empty, astonishingly ungrateful, mean spirited, narcissistic, buffoon.
358 division 1 basketball teams. Enfield has established USC inside the top 20 consistently. Although at times the team does seem to play down to the competition, they’ve thrived beyond any reasonable expectations based on their sorrowful past. Winning a national championship is indeed unlikely, but the fact that they get a ticket to try every year, have consistently improved recruiting and play in the upper tier of the pac12 is incredible to those of us that attended games with 300 people in attendance back in the 1980’s and 1990’s.
Writing articles for the sake of being contrarian is fine just back it up periodically with something tangible, factual or even remotely meaningful. The fact that a successful coach finds you unlikeable should cause you introspection, perhaps a change of course. Imagine if Enfield liked you, you might actually get a chance to report something original, I think they call that a scoop in your business.
