USC Morning Buzz: A Lot Of Confidence From Power Circles

I spoke to a donor who spent some time around Carol Folt during graduation week and said the USC president exuded more confidence than ever.

“She’s having a good year, that’s the impression conveyed,” the donor said. “She was proud of hiring Lincoln Riley but really there was a lot of talk and anticipation about Rick Caruso becoming mayor and how USC will benefit from that, which also benefits her.

“Her power will be at a high mark if-and-when he becomes mayor. Everyone knew she was his choice to be president and there is a lot of anticipation (on campus) about what will happen when he gets elected.”

Folt recently put out a video (below) to alumni where she said “we’re ending the year on an incredibly high note for USC athletics.”

An example she cited was “a record turnout at our spring football game.”

Imagine what she will say when USC is good in football and wins more than one national title in athletics in a single year and wins the Crosstown Cup!

    1. ah, yes…that is the way it went down. mis-read that for a second, even though I wrote it correctly.

On another note, I had said it be by the end of August when China invaded Taiwan. Looks as if it’s going to be much sooner.

Thanks Biden voters, for installing a fragile, weak, corrupt old man our adversaries would completely ignore and do as they wished. Hope getting the mean guy out was worth all of the lives lost. (They’ll make a monetary donation and convince themselves that shows how much they care.)

      1. Don’t get too depressed about Biden (it’s easy to do, I know). There’s an old Italian saying, “Nothing is so fucked up it can’t be un-fucked up.”

      2. 600,000 dead (& counting) from the virus he claimed to have a plan to defeat
200 dead from a botched exit from Afghanistan
        Thousands dead in Ukraine
Millions will die in about 14 countries that count on the wheat surplus that won’t be coming from Russia/Ukraine
        Thousands will die in Taiwan

Unf*cking things up won’t bring back those lives. Biden voters have so much blood on their hands.

      3. Luckily for Biden he can sleep easily— he’s not aware of one thing on your list.

      4. The US military complex is delivering baby formula now. I wonder how much that costs relative to the private sector. smdh.

      5. So Cal, I doubt there are many Biden supporters on this blog unless they are trolls from that socialist experiment up the street. I didn’t vote for Biden but my parents did. Dad’s been gone since 1989 and mom lived all the way up to 2000. They were both registered republicans, but have been voting for Democrats since they moved to Rose Hills.
Anyway Biden was a result of media sway and anybody but Trump voting.
Did you see the next “pandemic” on the back page of the paper? Monkey pox is an alarming trend according to Biden , which loosely translated says we’ll be controlling you when China invades Taiwan.

      8. Love when Trump haters make shit up to fit their narrative. This happened on Biden’s watch:

Abbott shut its Michigan plant in FEBRUARY after FDA inspectors began investigating four bacterial infections in infants who had consumed formula from the plant. The first of those cases was reported to the FDA in SEPTEMBER, but agency staff didn’t begin inspecting the facility until late JANUARY!!

His agencies moving as slow as you’d expect under a frail, weak old guy with dementia. Should move faster when you have only 3 companies producing 90% of the country’s baby formula. Contrary to what Dementia Joe claimed last week, it doesn’t take a crystal ball to predict the timeline above would create problems!

But no, let’s be fools and try to blame it on Trump. Even though it’s been one crisis after another CREATED BY THIS ADMINSTRATION.`

Caruso WILL become Mayor (which is mostly good) — Carol will become All-Powerful (which is mostly bad)…..

She’ll make a minor dent in the homeless problem, but make millions in a Pay To Play scenario.

That’s a good one. Look at who we have in the White House and rethink that. LA voters are plenty dumb enough to put incompetence in charge!

  1. Say what you will about madame, and we all have taken turns doing so, but Without-a-Folt is a pretty good talker, and it looks like things are getting turned around on campus along with athletics. But I don’t get what Caruso as the mayor can do for her.

    1. John,
As you know, everything in Los Angeles is about access. Carol will go to the front of the line.

    1. Not many people know this …but…Carol is on 24 months Summary Probation …one of the terms of which is: if caught touching or staring at a ref’s butt she’ll do 30 days ….

      1. USC rescued her from an end to her career, being 70ish and having been fired from UNC. Every day for Carol, even on hiney-check probation, is now a happy one, living north of Montana in Santa Monica, with gates that keep out the hoi paloi in case they venture into the neighborhood.

      3. MG, I might add “an all white, extremely wealth neighborhood”, in which 95% of those living there support expensive virtue signaling that raises the cost of living for everyone else, including millions of Hispanics, those who mow their lawns and walk their dogs and pick up their groceries, and clean their houses, who don’t care about any of that stuff.

    1. Way too early, yes, however…the offensive firepower on this team is close to a one-off. And the o-line stats were much better last year than in previous years, particularly in the run game, and we now have one of the best RBs in the pac 12 in the backfield. Riley’s teams run/pass is 50/50, more running plays than ‘bama or clemson.

The D is the question mark as far as I can tell, but I think that LB Shane Lee will bring a level of leadership to that group that has been completely absent. Good times ahead, no doubt it will be enormously entertaining to watch this team.

      1. On the money, 67. I might go so far as saying this 2022 USC offense will be the MOST entertaining in the country. Will that translate into “W’s”? You bet. I noticed in Charles’ article that the “Notable Additions” section didn’t include ONE o-line guy —but, as you said, we can go a long way with the guys we’ve got: they are underrated AND motivated.

    1. Guys,
We WERE studying this unexpectedly rapid expansion of the universe here in Hawaii —two research teams, one in Australia and one here, decided to combine type 1a supernova, redshift and light time to measure the rate of expansion. Unfortunately local activists pointed out that our telescope was probably bothering ancient mountain ghosts —so we just abandoned it. It’s better this way. The only thing that’s lost is our ability to understand when the Heat Death of the universe will occur. No biggie.

  2. If Biden only had a clue. He is now in a totally different dimension that the rest of us. His “party” is taking pride in ruining the country. Democrats should be made illegal.

    1. Hilarious the way some are claiming to hold the Constitution near & dear, for the purposes of an abortion, which it DOESN’T address.

But the 1st, 2nd, 4th and 10th amendments which it DOES address? They’ll do their best to ignore and trample upon.

The manner in which he banned the media from the border is exactly what a dictator does. But 39% are still stupid enough to approve of the job he’s doing. (supposedly)

      1. You can subtract about 10% of Biden’s support from EVERY Poll —they’d give him more than that…but they have to maintain some credibility if they want to stay in business…..

  3. What is with all this talk about Caruso beating Bass?– Yes, Caruso apparently took a slim lead in the primary, but neither will win a 50% majority so the two will faceoff in November, and currently Bass leads 48% to 39% with only about 10% undecided.

I guess Folt will not be getting a foothold in City Hall afterall
