Fox Analyst Less Bullish On USC

Is Fox analyst Joel Klatt less bullish on USC?

In February, he said USC was a “darkhorse pick” for the College Football Playoff. USC has since added more transfers, including wide receiver Jordan Addison, but today Klatt did not list USC among his top 9 teams. But he did include Utah.

So USC went from darkhorse College Football Playoff team to not winning the Pac-12.

  5. Don’t think Klatt is trying to separate himself from Cowherd. Collin has SC going 9-3 with losses to Utah, Notre Dame, and UCLA. No separation of opinion in this scenario. It will depend on the defense. If Lee, Blackmon, Height, Gentry, Pili, the TCU transfer, along with others and Grinch’s scheme can limit the opponent to 28 points, USC has the potential to win 11 games. The offense will score. If the defense plays like last year, it could be a 7-5 season. Under either scenario, it should be much more entertaining than last year. And maybe even worth the price of a ticket.

    2. Plow Horse: Consider this — Stanford kicked the shit outta USC (even Drake London) by interfering on EVERY pass play. It was their game plan –it was coached. It didn’t just happen. Our offense requires interference calls when our receivers can’t run their routes —but we play in the Pac 12 with the worst officiating in the country. What I’m trying to say is — it’s gonna be hard to overcome physical teams who decide to interfere with our receivers and bet on getting away with it. I think we’ll be good enough to overcome that strategy with everybody but Utah. The more I think about it, the more I think we’re gonna get royally jobbed out there.

      3. MG: Ohio State shredded Utah’s defense in the Rose Bowl with speedy receivers. We now have speedy receivers. I think we will put up 35 points or more against Utah. Utah will try to pressure Williams but he is a scrambler, much like C.J. Shroud. The key is whether we can stop the run and Utah, UCLA and ND will likely push around our defense.

  9. I would like to see SC win one of the games they are likely to lose. That would indicate the players are turning the program around. This means winning on the road at Oregon State, or beating Utah on the road, or beating Notre Dame at home. Moreover, if they lose to Utah and Notre Dame but the score is close (3 to 6 points), that also would indicate a lot. This means it must come from the players even more than the coach. They had no leader players last year. Slovis could not pull out games and the defense went into an arm tackling mode last year.

  11. Just in: UCLA announces they will open the 2023 football season AT the University of Hawaii- Hilo. Why not the Athletic Director said no one comes to any of our home games anyway, and it’s good for recruiting. As an athletic dept. our fans must realize we will continue to schedule more road games each season in order to generate enough revenue to pay the rent at the Rose Bowl each month during the season.

    i dont see how anyone can say the USC offense will be anything less than stellar. great QB, receivers, running backs and this offensive line, if it remains healthy, will be excellent.

    so many fans forget that the reason we sucked so bad last year was graham harrell.

    the defense has alot of talent and could be very good, or not. we wont know until the season begins. defensive line is much stronger than most people think. linebackers are a guess, but we have talent there. secondary has alot of talent, but not enough experience.
