USC Winners And Losers Of The Week

WINNERS

USC football camps

Hundreds of kids of come through USC this month for the Lincoln Riley version of the summer camps and so far no one is saying they miss Clay Helton.

Dave Emerick

After 18 years living in college football backwaters, he hit the lottery with a job offer from Lincoln Riley to become “General Manager/Senior Associate Athletic Director for Football.”

Isaiah Mobley

He got drafted (thankfully) and he gets reunited with this brother in Cleveland. Do the Cavs hire Eric Mobley as an assistant coach now?

Garret Guillemette

USC’s starting catcher last season entered the transfer portal a day after the Trojans struck out again on hiring a coach. Who can blame him? He’s the third player to enter the portal since the season ended.

Steve Sarkisian

He got Arch Manning to commit. Now can Texas win seven games?

LOSERS

USC baseball

What does it say when Troy Tulowitzki decides to take a year off instead of coaching at USC?

Coach Bohn

You know he played baseball in college, right? He can still get the right hire. It’s just not as easy as calling Lincoln Riley though.

Tradition

I heard Mike Rae didn’t even attend the 1972 reunion at the Salute to Troy. So USC couldn’t even get the QB or the defensive star (Richard Wood). Disgraceful.

NIL talk

Does this really inspire you?

      2. They really are a blessing, ’67. On these really hot days, ours love to jump in the pool.

Love what Danny Trejo recently said: ““I think the good Lord wants us to start living up to all our responsibilities. One of them is taking care of these guys. They were wolves. We called them in. We domesticated them. We made them our responsibility.”

A shame so many pandemic companions are now being dumped, having “served their purpose”.

      1. G. T. — You know who DOES know the meaning of fear? Check out the fear in Michael Calvin Jones’ eyes in the video Scott posted. Fuck-a-doodle! He’s running scared.

      1. Re-read the book, G. T. The dismantling of HAL is the most spiritual passage written in the last century. HAL doesn’t realize that “he’s not coming to an end…his memories are just being transferred for safer keeping.”

    3. If Steve Sarkisian keeps surrounding himself with top assistant coaches, and those Texas NIL deals, the Longhorns will dominate west coast college football 🏈.

    1. ED MY BROTHER. I THINK YOU LIKE TO WATCH THE FIGHTS. I DO TOO THO SOMETIMES BOXING IS A BRUTAL SPORT. I SAW BENNY KID PARET GET KILLED IN THE RING. MICHAEL GUARINO DOESNT LIKE BOXING BUT HIS SON DOES SO MG PRETENDS TOLIKE THE SPORT PER HIS OWN WORDS. HAHA. AT LEAST MY MEMORY STILL WORKS MICHAEL MY VERY GOOD BUDDY

      1. I used to enjoy it. But it was so corrupt. You’d spend an hour watching a fight only to have them hand it to a guy who had clearly lost.

UFC has us scratching our heads occasionally, but not as often as boxing.

      2. So Cal — I love it when the loser [who about to be declared the “winner”] is interviewed before the decision….and congratulates the winner [who is about to be declared the “loser”]. Sergio Mora went to Texas to fight some guy (I think his name was Ribera or some name sounding close) and creamed him. Before the hometown decision was announced, the loser congratulated Sergio for beating him …but upon hearing the decision he switched gears and said “it was close…but I beat him.”

I love boxing. I just don’t like it when my son say he’s “gonna go 75%” on me …and then turns on the heat.

      2. Michael, perfection eludes all of us, even prezznint Joe. But God bless him, he just keeps trying to get better every day. Someday, hopefully soon, that number 2 will find its way into the commode.

  1. Winners of the week the supreme court, by actually abiding by the constitution of the united states.
Losers of the week liberals without a clue on what the law states, about the issues at hand and politicians who lie to manipulate the masses on these same issues to stir shyt up.

    1. You are a real dumb shyt to say the least! Supreme Court is a total
loser with five low life judges and Roberts. Get lost if you can’t stick
to the sport topics of the post.

      2. Yeah, in June there’s not a whole lot to talk about except maybe what the Ticket Office is doing to hype season ticket sales.

As for football and getting a new recruit or a new member of the staff, getting too excited just brings back the immortal words of Mike Tyson: “Everyone’s got a plan, until they get punched in the mouth!”

When August comes around, I’ll start getting pumped. It’ll mostly be football talk and how China’s invasion of Taiwan is going. 😛

  2. Here is a video of Malachi. Compare the difference in quickness, speed, awareness between Malachi and Arch (link in the post above for Arch). Not even close:

      1. Yes, the physical attributes between Manning and Malachi Nelson are night and day different. Arch is playing high school in the minor leagues – small ball. I hope he succeeds, but he will have to learn to deal with power 5 defenses that are light years different from what he faces now.

      2. USC got the better Qb in Nelson no question. Manning has a name and it will help his NIL, but Nelson will outplay him every game. Much more versatile.

  3. I have to agree with Scott picking USC baseball as a loser. How do you not have a coach/ manager ? What was it the last candidate wanted, the USC wasn’t willing to give? If they can’t land a winner, should they scrap the program?
They can just tell the team, “we’ll honor your scholarship, but if you want to play, hit the portal.”

    1. Tell the team the truth: “You are very low priority. But don’t worry. We’ll finally land a coach who doesn’t make any demands and just wants a [modest] paycheck.”

  4. Sarkesian should be able to win big at Texas with the talent that he will have, but I can’t see him winning a national championship. I just don’t think that he is that great of a head coach. Both him and Kiffin were great offensive minds but Kiffin is a much better head coach. I can see Kiffin winning a NC some day but not Sark.
