USC and UCLA’s move to Big 10 is being cited to argue college athletes are employees in amicus brief in federal court.
“To pretend that this type of exhausting travel schedule over five short months is part-and-parcel of a student’s educational experience ignores reality,” the lawsuit states.

This may get too hot for the Virtuous Red Virgin, Carol Folt. In a week or so she may join the lawsuit….forcefully arguing against the move she initiated.
California’s crazier- than- a- loon Governor will take it from there……keeping UCLA at home to please all of it’s 3 dozen fans…

MG the travel argument seems weak. 4-5 moderate-to-long trips a year doesn’t seem excessive.

It’s not the time spent on traveling per se — it’s the fact California’s Man/Boy governor finds some of the destinations unholy….

Some of us were saying this weeks ago. You no longer have football players who are student athletes. The football players are paid very well to prepare for and play football, not to do mundane things like attend an economics class. Of course, if they want to make some extra bucks acting in a series that is fine as long as it does not interfere with football. Is the NCAA even going to require school attendance anymore? Is it time to stop the charade and go to an NFL farm system?

“Students in science majors” will be adversely affected reads the lawsuit.
Excuse me, but how many of SC’s current football roster is made up of science majors?– Any?
Any kid good enough to be recruited to a major college football program was not only the best footballer in his high school, but probably the entire league as well. All of these kids think they are NFL material and that 3-years of school is just a necessary purgatory they must pass through on their way to NFL-riches.

I hope MG’s predictions about Dementia Man being impeached come true. Really impeached, by both chambers. Not “impeached” the way they claim DT was, even though he was acquitted by the Senate.

[…and, personally, I’d rather see them fix the southern border, get American pension money out of Communist Chinese companies associated with their military, unleash American Energy producers, develop American supply chains for medications and medical products, stop the sale of American farmland and overhaul the election process —to resemble the French Model with precincts of 600, paper ballots, signatures at the door coming in and signatures at the door coming out]…

Folt wouldn’t fire Helton and hire Urban Meyer at $10 mil a year because of bad optics in view of the Pullafito cases. For the brilliant legal minds here, would this athletes-as-employees case have entered into USC’s calculus in its Big Ten decision?

While it will indeed be a challenge for our student athletes to adjust to the new demands of being in the B1G. As change will always come with challenges. We will whole heartedly provide as much support as needed to all of our student athletes, to ensure that they are maximizing their collegiate experience. We know that they will not only meet the challenges, but exceed expectations. We look forward to their successes.

Let’s focus on football. There are 1,093,234 high school football players in the United States, and 6.5% of those high school players (or 71,060) will play in college. The drop off from college to the pros is even more dramatic: only 1.2% college-level players will get drafted to the NFL. And don’t get me started on workers compensation claims, head injury monitoring or criminal litigation that may arise and cause the schools to pay out more to shut up folks. The increase in competition will force more injuries which will subsequently factor into a rapid increase to “participate” in the Big 10. At least it’s just 4 trips a year since they won’t be making the Big 10 Championship Game.

As far as recruiting is concerned, Matayo Uiagalelei is a close sign to watch. If they don’t get him, then they have recruiting problems that they have to fix. This guy is right in their back yard. There is no way that he should end up being one of those guys that SC is in the final top 3 but he ends up going somewhere else. This guy is not over there in Florida or Washington. He’s right here in SoCal. If you lose him, you need to start thinking about real problems that need to be fixed in your recruiting. Like I said before, CH never fixed problems. LR needs to be different.

I don’t know the details of AD’s private life. But on the surface, his decision to get gastric bypass surgery at only 275 lbs seemed like the easy & lazy way out. It’s more dangerous than people realize and should only be a last resort for those who are well more than 100 lbs overweight.

The purpose of an college discipline is to prepare the students for a future in said discipline. Those wishing to be pro football or basketball players should be aware of the travel involved. This doesn’t make them anymore than willing parties to an intern program. The distance traveled by pro ball players is part of their job, it makes sense to train for their choice of profession.
And since I mentioned train it should be noted that before modern air travel, football teams traveled by train, which was far more grueling. Nobody thought about the rights of the players back then.

It’s all political theater as you usual. That’s all! Using the so called student athletes for propaganda; like they are use to lying, to citizens for votes. They don’t care about us or anyone else but themselves and self interests. That’s all politicians care about. What grift or legal heist can they get away with next.
