USC Morning Buzz: Winners And Losers Of The Week

WINNERS

Lincoln Riley

At least he doesn’t have to wonder when he will land another offensive lineman following the commitment of Micah Banuelos.

Andy Stankiewicz

The new USC baseball coach got a commitment Monday from Nevada-transfer shortstop Ryan Jackson and Class of 2025 catcher Isaiah Ibarra. He previously landed Cal Baptist catcher Conner Clift.

Lane Kiffin

Asked about Texas and Oklahoma jumping to the SEC and USC, UCLA moving to the Big Ten, he said, “I don’t know if it’s a huge jump to the Big Ten, but going to the SEC is a whole ‘nother animal.”

Fanboy media

They were starting to find ways to rationationalize USC’s failure to land offensive linemen because they can never criticize anything. Now they can turn the latest commitment into Bruce Matthews.

USC track and field

Andre De Grasse and Tee Tee Terry won gold medals and ran anchor legs in the 4×100 relays. Nicole Yeargin won a bronze running the 4×400 for Great Britain.

LOSERS

George Kliavkoff

He gets to face the media for the first time Friday since USC and UCLA decided to bolt for the Big Ten. My guess is the media will judge him postively. They can’t help themselves.

Mike Bohn

Is he going to speak/yell to the media Friday? He’s been pretty quiet since the Big Ten decision.

Oregon

The commitment of Micah Banuelos showed one thing: USC coaches are going to use the move to the Big Ten as a wedge issue vs. the Ducks.

Bru McCoy

Still waiting to be declared eligible at Tennessee.

NIL

How many USC players are getting real benefits from this outside of Caleb Williams?

    3. Fanboys will definitely turn Micah Banuelos into Bruce Matthews, because that’s part of fooling themselves. The fact of the matter is, you win football games at the line of scrimmage, and that’s been USC’s weakest link the last decade. Clay Helton didn’t get it, and apparently neither does Lincoln Riley. Banuelos is depth, not a difference maker at 6’2 290 lbs. this is 2022 not 1965 😂

      1. George Tirebiter,

correct me if I am wrong, but did your parish hold Spencer Tracy’s funeral back in 1967?

A Requiem Mass was held for Tracy on June 12 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in East Hollywood.[250] Active pallbearers included George Cukor, Stanley Kramer, Frank Sinatra, James Stewart, and John Ford.[251] Out of consideration for Tracy’s family, Hepburn did not attend the funeral.[252] Tracy is interred at Glendale’s Forest Lawn Memorial Park, near his wife, Louise and son, John.[253][254][255]

    1. I resent the fact that the USC fanboys will compare Micah Banuelos to me, he has a dumpy build, and he’s more of a Mountain West conference or a division II type of player. When Lincoln Riley starts to sign linemen that Alabama and Georgia wants, then you can compare 🙄🙄

      1. He sure is. He just signed more than 10 gun restrictions, when we already had the strictest gun laws in the country.

The most high-profile of these laws allows Californians to sue anyone who distributes banned assault weapons or ghost guns. It’s modeled after a Texas law that allows private citizens to sue anyone who aids in an abortion.

        Sue away, Ed!

  3. Everyone is making a big deal out of an event that’s two years away, at least publicly. I’ll bet there are several teams who are secretly glad to be rid of the Trojans (and maybe the Bruins). In at least one case I bet the news is just reaching Oregon State because the Town crier was on vacation the past three weeks. The real question is why didn’t USC go independent? They could have easily negotiated a better deal without bringing the neighbors to the table.
And yes that’s me above I tapped my name on the phone but it only grabbed the first letter.

  4. First thing I see this morning is Lane Kiffin giving himself a big pat on the back when he says the SEC is the movie star while the Big-10 handles the movie’s lighting, or words to that effect.

I hope you are not talking about your average Miss team, Kiff. And after Alabama and sometimes Georgia, who exactly are the giants in the SEC?

And Scott Wolf putting down “fanboys,” whatever his definition is. Scott, don’t forget which side of your bread is buttered.

And then mixed feelings about Wiley’s first SC lineman recruit. He seems Samoan, and they are usually high-character guys. “But he is only a 3-star”, some cry. Well, SC “beggars can’t be choosers”

    1. Can’t believe Scottie went all in for Kiff’s cheap talk.

SEC teams went 6-8 in bowls last year. Including losing to a service academy.

  5. 10:30 ET!? That’s what USC’s trying to get away from.

Nicole Auerbach: Kevin Warren highlights the late-night time slot that the Big Ten will now be able to regularly play in, thanks to USC and UCLA.

  6. Scooter,

You can’t make the present Pac 12 commissioner a loser. That is from the prvious one who is an IDIOT, and that is Larry Scott. he destroyed the Pac 12 because of his stupidity and not knowing that football drives the money train. he thought the tennis circut did.

I’d have gone pro in a heartbeat. I’d be making millions of dollars and living in a big ol’ mansion somewhere, soaking it up in a hot tub with my soul mate.”

  7. LOSERS:

    PAC12 and Oregon/Washington.

The recent TV revenue numbers show that USC/UCLA was worth 50% of the revenue. USC was 30% alone!

Should have paid the ONLY blue blood program in the PAC12 the money they deserved to avoid PAC12 chaos.

  8. Banuelos is a four-star on 247Sports, ranking as the No. 13 interior offensive lineman nationally and the No. 4 prospect in the state of Washington in the class of 2023. This part wolfie left out…
