The first California High School Football Hall of Fame was unveiled today and featured 100 players. About a third of the class are former USC players.
It’s an impressive list although I don’t believe Pat Haden was one of the top 100 players in state history. He had a good career but top 100 should be the best of the best.
A permanent exhibit is going to be built at the Rose Bowl.
Here’s the list of players and coaches:

We should have some players from Jefferson, such as Brice Taylor and Manuel Laraneta both were great high school and college players st USC I know there are many others but the trend is to forget the old timers since the media doesn’t look back that far Brice was USC’ first all American and Manuel was the first three sport letterman at USC

I guess there were some extra- football considerations involved….

I wondered about that, too. But knowing he was a JUCO transfer to USC, I figured he may not have lit it up in high school.
I hope the decision making process was based on what happened on Friday nights.

I hope Eric is on a future inductee list. Senior year stats:
Reggie Bush 1,691 yards and 27 touchdowns
Eric Bieniemy (Bishop Amat) 2,002 yards and 30 touchdowns

Get rid of the kickers. And John McKay Jr., please. Tom Brady was not a great high school or college player. Why isn’t Matt Grootegord on the list. How about James McCutchen from Blair. His team beat Bishop Amat with Haden and McKay.

John McKay Jr. was a standout receiver in highschool …and he and Haden [with a big assist from Anthony Davis] tore a great Notre Dame team apart in 1974….

Pat Haden is on there.
Great list, including a nice mix of back-in-the-day guys and more recent vintages. California has been a remarkable state for high school football.

Gascon recall didn’t make the ballot! Almost 200K signatures “claimed to be” invalid.

I’m certainly glad California takes voter verification so seriously…

Unfortunate and unsettling, given how the signatures are being evaluated:
“The county’s failure to follow current law and uniform guidelines in the examination of the random sampling … is a violation of the rights of every Los Angeles County voter who signed their name to the recall petition to a fair, lawful and appropriate signature verification,”

Some great names on the list, though James McCallister could have easily been on there.

If they, for reasons of general decency, take the UCLA players off, there’ll be room….

Is this list for HS achievement or CFB/NFL achievement? Not included is Darrell Scott who was #1 national recruit in his class, but a bust in college. Same for USC’s Whitney Lewis (#2 national, both Ventura) and so many examples of this.

Good to see they included some old-timers, deservedly so.

Especially my first football hero, the great Jon Arnett!

It’s obviously the latter. Aaron Rodgers from a small HS, then a juco. Grant you, 25-26 an all-time great CFB performance.

Tom Brady was a good but not outstanding prospect coming out of HS.
Wiki: Brady would have been considered a four-star recruit. In essence, he was a highly rated prospect. Brady was also on Blue Chip Illustrated as well as a Prep Football Report All-American selection. After his recruiting process, he narrowed his list to five schools. “Probably the ones that we did hear from and ultimately pared the list to were Cal–Berkeley, UCLA, USC, Michigan and Illinois”, his father said.

Drafted Steelers. 1973-83. Selected Pittsburgh All 20th Century defensive team. Iron Curtain.

Scooter,
The pollesters did not do their job. They forgot the only player and head coach to be selected Player of the Year and Head coach of the year and it is one person. That person is Steve Grady. He won TWO CIF Championships with Loyola, back in 62-63 and was named player of the year. He was the starting tailback at SC and played between Garret and OJ. Plays for Denver and then goes back to Loyola to coach. He was named Coach of the Year around 92-93. Get on this. This is so wrong.

No players from Dorsey High or Crenshaw High but Pat Haden? Seriously? Can’t give this effort any value.
