Here’s an interesting comment from Pac-12 Network analyst Nick Aliotti that he told John Canzano during the game.
“Those guys are the more physical team,” Aliotti said of Oregon State.
Aliotti is a former defensive coordinator at UCLA and Oregon.
Do you agree or disagree?
- When Johnny Nansen got hired as defensive coordinator at Arizona it sounded like a potential disaster.
Nansen, a former USC and UCLA assistant, has never been a defensive coordinator before. Yesterday, Cal had 615 yards in total offense. Cal?!?!
The Bears have a new QB and a true freshman tailback from Norco (Jadyn Ott). Ott rushed for 274 yards.
That may be true, but SPEED KILLS

Check it out —the ball in Caleb’s hand is slightly underinflated….he’s been getting tips from Matt Barkley…

That was such a physical game it was hard to tell who was more.

That was such a physical game it was hard to tell who was more. But at the same time, I need to stop being a fucking cock sucking homer, so Oregon State without a doubt was the more physical team.

NOT SO MUCH DURING THE GAME

I WATCHED THE GAME
HAD A LOT OF COMMENTS TO MAKE
BUT
I READ ALL THE COMMENTS MADE JUST AFTER THE GAME AND MOST WERE REALLY GOOD
NOTHING LEFT FOR ME TO SAY
BUT YOU ARE RIGHT MICHAEL THAT CALEB GOT IN A FUNK EARLY ON AND STAYED THAT WAY. HE HAD A COUPLE OF GAMES LIKE THAT. LAST YEAR TOO
PARTICULARLY THE ONE AGAINST BAYLOR
BUT I THINK HE HAS ONLY HAD LIKE ELEVEN GAMES IN HIS WHOLE COLLEGE CAREER SO HOPEFULLY HE CAN EMOTIONALLY MATURE
ONE CAN SEE HE IS A GREAT ATHLETE AND HAS ALL THE PHYSICAL GIFTS.
OUR O LINE WAS POOR ON PASS PROTECTION AND OUR RECEIVERS WERE NOT GET MUCH IF ANY SEPARATION

Losers stick together. Pac-12 network and Oregon State.

It sorta seems to me the team that COMPLETELY ran outta gas on their last defensive series AND their last offensive drive is the team that DIDN’T get the better of the physical battle….

Or the team that gave up on 4th and 2 and let themselves get run over by Brett Neilon.

Yep. If that’s what the Pac 12 Network calls “physicality” then I don’t want us to be physical.

AZ coach sounded like Helton during post game comments.
Jayden Ott RB. Real Deal. 274 yards. Freshman. 4.35.
Doesn’t look back because no one can catch him.

In what way was he like Helton? Making crazily optimistic statements about the “bright side”? Or looking into the camera cross eyed with his mouth wide open as he listened to the question?

I’ll go with answer (c), which is “both (a) and (b).”

Pushing expectations down the road. All his comments are on desertswarm. Sounded like Helton jr.

Both of those teams were physical saturday night. Nansen is a jack of all trades. He has been just about every kind position coach you can be. Whether he is a good DC? Too early to tell.

615 yards isn’t so bad.
Seriously.

Exactly, 67. I think I even remember a game where there was over 615 yards of offense….

Neither Sarkesian nor Cristobal are looking good right now. I always said that neither one of those guys are great coaches. Sark is a really good OC but, like Norm Chow(his mentor), not a great HC.
Cristoball is a great salesman who manages to sell himself and he surrounds himself with great saleman assistants who are great recruiters who can sell the program but none of them are great coaches.

Don’t you just love it when somebody asks, “Which football team was the most physical?”
Or in other words, ‘Which team was so worked up over the game that they discounted their health as they threw their bodies with abandon at the opposition?’– Football coaches teach kids to throw-away any natural human tendencies for the “good of the game”
Are there any winners in such a contest?
Beware SC– You will get this same frenzied kamikaze treatment wherever you go because it is so easy for the nation to hate L.A., especially the carpetbagger SC football team!

USC will get everybody’s best shot — but Colorado’s best shot isn’t the same thing as Oregon State’s best shot…

In Panavision. The game may be moved to Anaheim. The players will come out for the game on floats with small small world music pumping.

One more thing so-called SC rooters–
Lay off Celeb, he has got a lot on him already without you piling on,
‘Kill the goose, and there’ll be no more golden eggs’
Give this 19-year old a break, for goodness sakes!
Yes, he did have a pedestrian game against Oregon St, albeit with no turnovers again, and yes, he seemed disinterested in Wiley lecturing him before the final winning drive
but it appeared to me he was not disinterested, but was focusing on what he could do on the final drive for SC that was coming up. And he was collecting himself, really did not need Wiley in his face, but that is ok too, he means well, however Celeb is thinking “Right now I want to be alone, readying for this final drive. What does it take to crack this ‘monster’ Beaver defense?’

Very smart observation, John. You could be on the money on this one. I remember seeing Hector Camacho — getting lectured by his trainer after a knockdown — & all he wanted was for his trainer to get outta his face —he was planning what HE wanted to do…..and he knew he didn’t need any help.

I’m sure Caleb doesn’t mind his coach gettin in his face and telling him to man up and let’s go execute because your the best DAMN PLAYER IN THE GAME AND CONFERENCE.
Wolf making stupid stuff up now. Oregon state was physically tougher but lack mental strength to win the game and stop USC. Or USC was tougher because they outfought the Beavers for that fumble on the one yard line. Kinda ridicules the logic of Allioti’s statement since the Trojans won. For Wolf to repeat that validated his pettiness.

That game exposed the USC offense and Riley will need to patch up the leaking holes. The offensive line is porous. It honestly felt like they just give up on blocks if they get beat by a step. In previous games it was all the left tackle, but in this game, I saw multiple players whiffing on their blocks – Neilon, Dedich.
I dont think our tight end group can be relied upon for blocking and as a result, this removes one of Riley’s typical threats.
I can really tell if downfield blocking is effective or not.
Caleb’s mind is probably getting filled with evading incoming rush and he is losing his effectiveness at locating and hitting receivers. Hopefully, this is something they can work through.
The offensive line is the real problem here and I really wonder why such a senior group of players is not doing better. Is this a coaching problem? I dont think this is a problem of players not working together as a unit, it seems more like an individual effort – mano-a-mano problem.
If the o-line doesnt get solved, the skill players and Riley will have to be very creative to win games.
Maybe the one bright side is that the defense is being forced to pick up their game to help out the offense. It might improve them over time.
I want to see more Domani Jackson on the field and more Raleek Brown. And how is Raesjon Davis coming along?

USC is not going 2 out physical any team they play except Colorado & Arizona. LR n OL coach must teach better blocking techniques for pass blocking. They don’t consistently move their feet or use lower body to stop bull rushing DL, who are consistently getting to Caleb. We are far from a complete team, but there are positives elements that say we are improving. Scott stop making up stuff that isn’t true. Who cares if a team is more physical than us as long as we win we will worry about all that if it becomes a situation that can’t be corrected. ROME WASN’T BUILT IN A DAY.
