Saturday Buzz: Who Wins USC-Washington State Game?

It’s time for you to pick the score for the USC-Washington State game. The Trojans are 13-point favorites.

I’ll pick my score later today.

  • With Shane Lee battling an injury, it’s a reminder of what happened to linebacker Julien Simon this season? He doesn’t appear to be hurt but plays little.

Remember Chris Thompson, the linebacker transfer from Auburn? He hasn’t played this season to my knowledge but he’s been hurt.

  • Did you see this high school football score Friday night?

Norco 77, Murrieta Valley 76 (OT).

  • Lincoln Riley took a helicopter to the St. John Bosco-Mater Dei game. A year ago, Donte Williams would have worn his baseball jersey.

    1. Why was ‘Ol Mule Shoe wearing a visor last night at the  “The Collection of Future CFB Pineapple Pipeline Busts Bowl”…Sponsored by Charmin (toilet paper?

      1. If Gabby/pudly hasn’t seen ‘Ol Mule Shoe wearing a visor then she hasn’t seen a game this year.

Gabby is ripe, needs to wash her twat

      1. Wow – just when I thought Gabby’s triple off the wall couldn’t be topped, Marvienna takes it deep over the light tower in center.

      2. …but…let’s remember this: our long-suffering leader puts up with our slings and arrows while giving us at least a half dozen really funsome posts a week….

  1. Shane Lee is having some issues scraping off tackle and meeting the ball carrier. on pass coverage, he’s struggling to stay on his man. I see why he wasn’t playing much at Bamma.

Goforth is better in pass coverage and should be getting more snaps….IMO

    1. Do you think Shane is getting better…or worse?

Anything could happen in today’s game ….except USC being blown out. Every other result is a possibility, depending on breaks & officiating and injuries.

      1. I wouldn’t say he’s getting worse. Coaches have seen the tape on him and are attacking his weakness, pass coverage. Coordinators are running formations to get him isolated on an RB. Numerous times I have seen RBs run right past him.

I question his instincts and ability to process the play and react in a timely matter. It’s not a lack of physicality, it’s more pointed toward the mental aspect and lack of elite foot speed.

      2. He is a ‘tweener in terms of position. He looks like he is close to 250 lbs. He has speed once he gets it into top gear, but a guy at his size can’t cover a back, and he can get juked in the open field.

    2. Shane Lee is slow as molasses

Tuli Tuilupoopoo is as soft as Charmin.

I counted at least 9 times last game where Tuilupoopoo was either tossed or pancaked to the ground

      1. Although Lee is slow he is one of the few on defense who is usually where he’s supposed to be, just a step or wo slow in getting there

      1. Venables is destroying what Riley built. There were those on this board who wanted him here at USC. Fortunately I objected —“Never”” Mike Bohn, who follows every syllable I write, was persuaded to look elsewhere….

  3. USC 38 – 31 Washington St. The offense needs to get back to being up-tempo. Defensively, Shane Lee has a tendency to get stuck ball watching. Notice how he becomes out of sync with Gentry? He’s better off playing MLB with two athletic guys next to him and then getting off the field on 3rd and long. Special teams is still an issue with USC.

That would definitely be a better scenario for Lee. Good comment!

    2. Lee might not be the best guy as defensive QB. Gentry strikes me as a better pick, but the D staff is making the most out of what they were handed. They certainly are making the right adjustments at halftime.

      1. …Here’s a halftime adjustment: “All Special Teams players: We want you to stay out of the game as much as possible on kickoff returns —just signal fair catch or let the ball go into the endzone when it looks like it’s gonna bounce in from the 5 yard line.”

  5. Feel bad for the Oklahoma players but I’m taking way too much joy seeing Sooners fans go ballistic watching, whatever TF, Brent Venables has done with this team.
No BS, if Clay Helton took over OU this year, they wouldn’t be this bad.

Before we feel sorry for Venables wasn’t he the guy who said he was gonna “return discipline and fundamentals of football to Oklahoma program”?

Ed — are you writing for the announcers of the UCLA/Utah game? “Okay, it’s 3rd and one for Utah… and they’re gonna go for it.”

      2. Michael, in Ed’s world, there are some quick kicks that can be more effective than getting a near-guaranteed first down on 3rd and one.

  7. Venables got blown out by Steve Sarkisian. . .that statement alone should cost him his job. I guess Urban Meyer would be amenable to coaching in Norman, Oklahoma.

  8. Lots of prominent coordinators at top programs turn out to be ineffective HCs. Venables tipped his hand that he was way out of his league when he said “I will return discipline and fundamentals to the Sooner program.”

      1. IF…big IF….USC can bull rush straight thru Washington State’s really terrible O-Line it won’t matter how good their QB is —he shouldn’t get a chance to set up.
[If we can’t blow up this O-Line we’re in trouble against Utah and UCLA]….

Last week he thought Dillon Gabriel was the best transfer-portal-QB and today he states that outside Ole Miss, Bruins have had the most impactful transfer class.
Def has something against USC. Is he buddies with Skip Bayless?

  10. My prediction –

    USC – 38
    Wazzu – 34

I think it will be a close game, but I cant quite figure out if it is a high scoring game or not. USC probably has a hard time stopping Wazzu and CW must play superman to win the game. CW will once gain win the game on the last drive.

I believe USC will be forced to show more of the playbook on both sides of the ball to beat Wazzu, which means that the Utah game will be tougher. I hope Utah beats UCLA.

We will continue to see that against good teams USC’s o-line is a real problem and the defense must rely on big plays to slow down opponents.

Hope I am wrong and it is an easier game than I imagine.

    1. There is NO reason why we can’t sack or hurry Washington State’s QB on almost every pass play…. their O-line can’t hold anybody out out of backfield…. they absolutely suck…

  12. Interesting reports per both Fox and ESPN declining to offer any significant proposals to George Kliavkoff/Pac 12 for broadcasting rights for conference members. Report states both Amazon and Apple are interested in offering competing offers. It also concludes with Kliavkoff bluntly stating the financial gain for Ucla will be offset by travel costs and ‘…associated toll on athletes’ bodies…’ and that their leaving the conference may not happen.
