USC Morning Buzz: Transfer Madness Continues

Coastal Carolina defensive end Josaiah Stewart announced his final choices are USC and Michigan.

What no one mentions is what NIL deals are being dangled to some of these transfers.

I’ve heard some Pac-12 transfers who aren’t even assured a starting spot are getting offered low six-figure deals this offseason. That’s a nice deal for players who don’t even know if they are good enough to make the NFL. Some of them actually transfer because they are worried about getting beaten out by younger players, not just to play at a better school.

  • Washington State linebacker Travion Brown visited USC last weekend. He’s another local (Temecula) who couldn’t even get an offer from USC in high school but is now being recruited. Imagine if the three-star from Linfield Christian comes to USC and plays ahead of some higher-touted prospects.
  • Here is an important detail in the UCLA-Cal deal Wednesday. The Bruins’ payment of $2-10 million will be an ANNUAL payment. Not a one-time payment.

The UC Regent who urged other regents to boost the annual payment upper limit from $5 million to $10 million was Jay Sures, a UCLA graduate.

  • I love the UCLA-Cal civil war on this issue.

  • Did you know USC played Long Beach State at the Galen Center on Wednesday night? Neither did anyone else. The official attendance was 1,835. That is pathetic. And I don’t care about the usual litany of excuses (final exams, etc.). To draw less than 2,000 is embarassing.

      1. I listened to that long interview Mike Bohn gave yesterday —wherein he elaborated on his theory of “intensity of interest.” USC is a place of “intensity of interest.” Our football program is a program that generates “intensity of interest.” “Intensity of interest” is what it’s all about. He’s a nice man —who has learned to talk in catch phrases —-coming across more and more like Clay Helton….but with more hair. Just the kind of guy USC wanted for that position…

  3. I’m reading the Regents decision and it looks like $10M + minimum $9.1M additional and that can go higher. The $2-10M is a polite way to say $10M.
Fucla black athlete/ students graduate at 50%. I doubt that will increase. The $9.1M will increase to deal with lower graduation rates.

Fucla didn’t get many people in their corner at the meeting.
They can’t put people in the stands as it is. Does the athletic Dept think Rutgers vs ruins attendance will help? The first time fucla fans get a taste of travel to State College, PA in Nov will be the last time. I’m hoping for Nov early winters.
I prayed they’d yank the Rose Bowl and make the ruins beg for a HS stadium. No such luck.
Ruins can’t draw in SoCal and can’t stay in the black with all the loot here. So go to the refrigerator in the upper Midwest to solve your financial problems. Lol. Ruins move to the B10 will end up being one of thee all-time blunders. They’re going to make a little money but nowhere what SC will make.

Your wish for early winter back east is trivial, they now have heaters on the sidelines. I know your feelings are based on a sour grapes attitude, but Cal simply does not care about football. You make no sense. If Cal doesn’t care about fb, (and how would you know?), Why would Cal care about fucla? We don’t. The move will weaken them and pay off our stadium renovation debt as mandated by State of California. $400M. Win Win. I love it.

Bay Area schools don’t like L.A. Fenkin S hole. You guys can get used to weekenders in November Madison, Wisconsin, lol. Or Piss-Cat-Away. 2x lol. Or as it’s known,NO DIRECT FLIGHTS TO OR FROM STATE COLLEGE.
        Hurry and buy your tickets.

Sideline stadium heaters are not the solution. Try running on ice.
Cry rooms and feel safe? You sir are delusional. You just make up your spl brand of fiction.

Sour grapes? My feelings? Lol. Adios ruins. SC may prosper. Ruins wont.

I’m ok with Moss starting, but Mr. Heisman gives us our best chance of winning……With a healthy Caleb, the point spread would be 10 points or more instead of the current 2 points….

Tulane’s 17-10 win over Kansas St., who took down TCU, also has some bearing in the 2-point number.

Riley can use Caleb’s injury to his advantage regarding who Tulane is going to scheme for at the QB position if he doesn’t announce a starter.

Don’t get me wrong though if I had to choose between going to the big 10 or staying with UCLA in the Pac 12 I obviously would vote for the former.

And about all these transfers that weren’t offered out of high school. It’s great it’s kind of like they went to the minor leagues and have developed their skills and now they’re coming to play in the big (USC) leagues.

The Sun Bowl hasn’t been the same since Clown U and Kiffy Goat, in a floppy, stylish sombrero and kool LA shades covering a black eye that he didn’t collect during a fight with and Asst. SUCC FB coach, lost to a 5 – 6 GT team. I hear Eli Wallach thought KG looked better in a sombrero then Tuco did.

Kiffy Goat was always quite the Ringmaster for Clown U FB until that fireball, St. Pat, put his foot down, and fired KG on the LAX tarmac.

As I recall, St. Pat was also quite the Ringmaster for Clown U himself. I believe St. Pat is still referred to as “Hey Rube” in U’Dub FB circles.

I can’t imagine why anyone would speak up for a university that can’t seem to track $100 million dollars of school money to the point that the leadership decides to prostrate itself to the highest pimp to be even . . . even though the Oedipus consternations of the “founding university” can’t get any traction to be considered to join the largest Midwest sports conference in spite of it’s academic reputation being greater than any school in said conference? Basketball success is cute but fails in capacity in interest to college football. But the games themselves in each sport pale in comparison to the pain that the NLRB and the feds want to inflict on USC and college football with a recent filing that should scare the bejezzus out of every college AD or school leader: Socialism in college sports.

      2. I’m not talking about the player’s NIL……The Universities have their own unique NIL. Without the Universities, these players would have nothing. The right to play football is a privilege, not a necessity.

      3. That was the argument that the schools used to claim that students were “amateurs” who represent universities on a voluntary basis. From Prefontaine to the argument against allowing players to form a union, schools claim that students cannot be considered employed because they “choose” to repent the school and therefore any revenue generated should go to the schools first and the schools take the burden of putting on games and all other liabilities.

Even the Supreme Court said enough.
