USC Morning Buzz: Go Jump In A Stream

Actor James Hong, a USC graduate, turns 94 today.

Hong, who has appeared in more than 600 TV and film roles, studied civil engineering at USC and worked for L.A. County as a road engineer for seven years before becoming a full-time actor.

And he is in the Oscar-nominated film, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Last year, he got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

  • Andrew Marchand of the New York Post reported the Pac-12 is thinking about having all its games streamed on Apple TV+.

Nothing has been decided yet but if this was a trial balloon, it sank at its launch. Imagine a college football weekend where every broadcast and cable network is showing college football games and the Pac-12 is being streamed on Apple?

Now a caveat: Apple’s deal with the MLS that begins this year will have every game streamed on Apple TV+. But there will also be some simulcasts on the Fox Network.

How would that work with college football? What broadcast windows would even be available for simulcast besides 7:30 p.m. PT?

  • USC baseball lost to UC Irvine, 8-7, on Tuesday night in the first setback for Andy Stankiewicz.

Because of the heavy rains expected this weekend, USC’s three-game series at Dedeaux Field vs. Auburn has been moved to Alabama. Who would guess Auburn would have better weather than L.A. in February?

        The train derailment in Ohio related to ending regulations that were put in place during the Obama administration but were rolled back by the Trump administration. The regulations are related to the incident in East Palestine, Ohio, and the topic has garnered attention from both sides of the political spectrum. Right-wing media sees it as an opportunity to criticize President Joe Biden and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, while most on the left are concerned about the potential dangers of deregulation.

        Fox News even mentioned the issue of the regulatory changes and pointed out that Trump rolled back train safety rules. The regulations in question were designed to require railroads to update their braking systems, specifically for trains that carry hazardous materials. This could end up being yet another example of right-wing deregulation leading to a tragic result.

The series will be played on Auburn’s campus at Plainsman Park where the Tigers were 25-9 last season en route to their second College World Series appearance in the last three NCAA tournaments.

    “It’s hard,” Auburn head coach Butch Thompson told 247Sports. “We had already packed our bags to leave on Thursday. The forecast has been really tough for Los Angeles. Andy Stankiewicz, the head coach for Southern Cal, is a star. He wants to play. We want to play. We got together together and both administrations just absolutely got after it and canceled our flights and created flights for Southern Cal. They are coming to Plainsman Park for the first time in history. We’re going to play this three-game series in Auburn, Alabama.

    Maybe Enfield should take notice of how to toughen up your team instead of playing cupcakes.
