Friday Night Column Supplement

Here’s another publicity photo from the 1953 film, “All-American.”

From the left, USC running back Al Carmichael, actress Mamie Van Doren, actor Tony Curtis and USC running back Jim Sears.

So now you can say that Curtis wore a USC uniform.

It’s fitting Sears always looks happy because every time I spoke to him he was happy and a great guy.

Here’s a shot of Curtis and Van Doren for the movie.

The movie’s credits also listed when and where everyone was an All-American.

      1. I’d feel a lot better about Tony if he didn’t kill Kirk Douglas in “The Vikings” [at least he gave Kirk a Viking funeral …with lots of great musical accompaniment]….

      2. Favorite Kirk Douglas story: When Kirk entered his suite at the King David Hotel in Israel he saw that all the bath towels had the initials “K. D.” on them. He said to his wife, “That is such a nice touch…but they didn’t have to do that for me.”

      1. Absolutely MG, and based on prior SUCC NCAA cheating busts and sanctions, SUCC deserves to be routinely investigated for fat cat/athletic program, NIL felonies…you know, like every month.

In fact, there are some NCAA investigators who claim they can smell SUCC doing some sort cheating whenever they set foot on the bozo U campus.

BTW, now that Caleb the Monumental has won his H/T, he’s now talking about winning a second H/T and the NFL 2024 draft. He say his dream drafting team would Miami. Say what? I mean isn’t a former Alabama NC the starting Miami QB?

Caleb’s made no mention of his 2023, bozo u, FB team goals. But Caleb denies being a selfish, glory hog…Oh well.

#LR say Caleb is da boss! Caleb say LR need to wash Caleb’s wheels.

      2. I don’t know who’s advising Caleb but it would be better if he stopped talking about which NFL team he wants to play for next year. There are somewhere in the vicinity of 10 great Trojan receivers who wanna believe he’s thinking about the 2023 season [which I’m sure he is —even if that interview gives the opposite impression].
btw, I’m sure you’re 100% correct about all the fucked NCAA investigators who “think they smell cheating” at USC while sitting on their couches 3000 miles away. …

    1. The NCAA is and always shall be a scholarship bank and nothing more. It was founded in the premise of keeping school sports fair and balanced. All of its powers are granted to it by the members who fund it. When USC was nearly mortally wounded in the last NCAA investigation I advocated for withdrawal from the governance of the corrupt system. I still believe USC should withdraw. The NCAA holds no power over the teams, which is not granted by the teams. It is no wonder people refer to the NIL rules as the “wild west” because that’s what it is. The NCAA dare not level draconian sanctions again, lest people see them as the sham they have always been.

  1. Favorite Tony Curtis story: On the first day of shooting Curtis walked up to Sir Lawrence Olivier on the set of Spartacus and asked how he wanted to be addressed. Olivier said “Call me Larry –how would you like to be addressed?” Curtis said “Sir Tony.”
