USC Morning Buzz: What Kliff Kingsbury Can And Cannot Do

For all the hoopla surrounding the hiring of Kliff Kingsbury at USC as a Senior Offensive Analyst (capital letters on the title!), there are a lot of limitations over what he can do.

As an analyst, Kingsbury cannot coach the players. He can’t tell them what to do at practices. He can talk to the quarterbacks during their position-group meetings and give as much advice as he wants. He can do game-planning, although how much is debateable given that Lincoln Riley is so hands-on that he serves as the QB coach.

A Pac-12 coach suggested Wednesday that Kingsbury came to USC because it would help him get a college job.

“He can spend the season at USC and try and get a college job,” the Pac-12 coach said. “If he stays at USC past this season, they would have to demote a tight ends or receivers coach and make him the quarterbacks coach.

“But ultimately, he’ll try and use this to get another college (head-coaching) job.”

Who will hire a guy who went 35-40 at Texas Tech and 28-37-1 with the Arizona Cardinals? I’m sure there will be someone.

Riley on hiring Kingsbury: “I thought it just ended up being a great fit for both sides. He’s obviously got familiarity with our offense.”

    2. Instead of hiring an actual defensive coordinator this clown ‘Ol Mule Shoe hires another offensive coach.

‘Ol Mule Shoe needs help with game planning to try and average 50 pts. as he anticipates Grinch, Nua and the other idiot Donte Williams so called defense will give up 48 pts. a game

    1. You are still upset that Ed called you Penis Breath a year ago. And all you’ve been able to do is respond with fake and impostor accounts on a blog for a school which you did not attend? Please keep at it. I’m sure I’m not the only one having a good laugh at how you’ve been triggered.

  2. Courtland Ford in portal, not a surprise. Kids need to go where they can play. He would have been a 2nd team guy all year. No guarantee he would start in 24.

    1. Elijah Page will probably be the starting left tackle in 24. This is probably best for USC. If there is a really good o line addition they can add in the portal, they might do it. Ford will find a home somewhere. As the o and d line get better there will be guys who just cant compete for starting positions.

      1. S,

Yes I was. I am in contact with Harvey and I keep asking him when he will return. I am the tall bald headed guy. There is only one other that is taller than I that shows up and his name is Steve that hands out his recruiting book, is a teacher, and a ref for basketball. Harvey is a good guy. Good group.

      2. I know who you mean, but his name is not Steve. Believe it is Dave .
Steve is my name, short statue & usually wears an USC baseball cap. Now uses a cane for balance. I would go to the Continental Burger
before they closed. Came all the way from Northridge ( SFV )
        W/one or two others.

  3. Sorry if this is a duplicate, I still don’t see this after five tries. Either they are moderating or my phone doesn’t like Scott.

I used to have a friend who would get all worked up over things he imagined I was going to say, or how he thought I would react. He never would tell me directly about his mind-conversation, but would stew about it just the same. If I asked him about his feelings he would say, “I knew you’d say that!”
I said I used to have this friend. I don’t stay in toxic environments anymore. This is how I feel when I read “A PAC 12 coach said…”
Who does Scott imagine he’s protecting? If a coach actually said something, this little blog/Twitter feed wouldn’t reach end of the page before the unnamed coach would retract or react. Then thinking about the number of Actual (capitals on the title like Ucla) Coaches in the PAC 12 makes me wonder if credibility is really a goal for the anonymous quote. “A PAC 12 coach said Charmin is softer than the USC defensive backfield.” Add to the possibility of an actual coach, the number of honorary coaches, “Coach Folt prefers Costco brand tissue to the defensive backfield,” and you get an insane amount of room to exaggerate.
I know it’s Scott’s style to use anonymous sources, but his is not Woodward and Bernstein level reporting. If it is his opinion, that should suffice without embellishing the thought.

  4. Ghost of Me,

I understand what you are saying. However, Scooter has to protect his sources by saying that everything is confidential. If Scooter announced his source, then it would get back to Riley and there might be a problem. Plus, if Scooter announces the name, then whenever Scooter says a quote from a SC coach, then we will think it is the same one. It could be a different coach that gave him another quote. If Scooter is caught lying about talking to a coach and not actually talk to him, then Scooter’s reputation is shot. Overall, it is best to keep it confidential. That way we can rag on Scooter for the quotes. LOLOL

I’m not an “abortion on demand” advocate by any means—but, politically speaking, this issue is hurting republican chances to win on any level.

  7. No one else has Klingsbury working for them. I’d rather have Klingsbury in the building than working for someone else making them better on offense (hint, Pac 12 programs) and the defense needs to stop their teammates in practice. Hopefully, it makes them better for the games because fall camp is looking pretty good.

Tebow, your such a repetitive amoeba. I think you have to be related to Jim Jordan or some other low logic, leftist with your rants. Can’t you think of a better way of expressing criticism? Or are your knuckles suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome?
