Notes: Here’s The Best Thing To Happen To USC

I wish USC could have sent Gary Patterson to Big Ten media day but assistant coaches do not go to the event.

That’s too bad because I think Patterson is the best thing to happen to USC this year. He will be organization and maturity to the defense and coaching staff.

Now will that be enough to turn USC into a Collge Footbal Playoff contender? That is the key question heading into the season.

I don’t know if Patterson has enough talent at linebacker or the secondary to make USC an elite defense. And I don’t trust Lincoln Riley with being enough of a leader of men to really make a significant jump with USC.

  • Notre Dame athletic director Pete Bevacqua spoke to the Athletic about playing Texas.

“I think this series will definitely be played. And I talk to (Texas AD) Chris Del Conte frequently … both universities want that game to be played and are going to play that game.”

So does that mean Notre Dame and Texas talk to each other more than Notre Dame and USC? Would that surprise anyone?

  1. I can see it now, SC wins the game against OR, and the team carries Gary Patterson off the field like the 85’ Bears with Buddy Ryan!! Wolfman has set the table, if the trOXans actually make a move this season, Patterson will get sll the credit, if they don’t, pressure to buy out Lil’ Lord Riley will be immense, with Patterson emerging as a top candidate!!

  2. KAM: I don’t believe there will be any carrying off the coaches after the Oregon game if SC wins it

    DON: I have seen SC fans rushing the field only twice, one after the 8-game losing streak with ucla ended and another time with a favored Stanford

  3. Scott, do you think that Texas will agree to play the Princess in the middle or at the end of the season? It would be first game or nothing and probably at a neutral site like Cowboy Stadium. Texas isn’t stupid. Fight on, Dan, Class of 1962

  4. Hey Scott, per ‘the green elf’ own words

    TX is only playing ‘the princess’ twice – Away (2028) and Home (2029) and note class 2028 9th Sept and for 2029 22nd Sept….now why is that and also Scott why are both in September?

    The longer this stretches out the tougher it gets for Miss Havisham to reverse what is obvious to any future opponent….’the princess’ can’t sign up any decent foes to play after September. They do face AL in 2029 and 2030….IN in 2030 and 2031 but, as usual, the rest of their schedule is weak in fact note what’s set for 2027….non-ACC Purdue, MI St., Auburn, Kent St., Navy and BYU and the usual dwindling 6 ACC.

    The previous devious soul, Jack Swarbirck knew when to get out and leave the looming mess for a fanatic like Bevacqua to attend to.

    Hey just imagine if WI takes them down 6th Sept and Lambeau Field – Luke Fickell is as Riley is 5th year and little to show for it same with Belichick i.e. @ NC 3rd October yes granted legacy teams bring the effort out in any opponent but these two head coaches are looking for respect.

    I wonder if Brady Quinn and Petros looked this over before they ‘okayed’ their approval?

    DON: The guy signed close to a billion-dollar contract and still is owed about half-a-billion– I think they’ll keep him

  8. Kam: Not much going on, so I imagined it was game day for September’s SC-Oregon game, and as a fan I am entering the coliseum feeling excited but a little scared for our boys

    DON: For good reason. Oregon is favored in our home

    DON: Indiana football has mostly been an after-thought to the basketball team.

    KAM: In sports I doubt there is a better feeling than to be near the worst for decades, and now suddenly you’re the best

    KAM: Yeah, and the SC game usually saved their season
