USC Morning Buzz: Here Comes The Season!

It’s game week. Are you getting goosebumps?

Noon at the Coliseum on Saturday. Should be a nice, cool, refreshing atmosphere. A huge crowd (lol). Much better than playing Notre Dame in November. Sir Lincoln of Riley certainly thinks so.

USC is paying San Jose State $1.4 million to play in Saturday’s game. So that is what it cost to replace the Notre Dame game. Great business.

  • Maybe the most interesting part of the game will be whether freshman QB Jonas Williams gets to play. It’s not like you can draw serious conclusions about the defense when they are facing San Jose State.
  • Did you see Matt Leinart did not know what was hidden inside the Trojan horse?

This on the heels of USC flubbing the meaning of the Odyssey on social media last month. I guess more people need to take the Greek mythology course at USC. It used to be one of the required freshmen courses.

    1. KAM Maybe that held him back in the NFL. How much of Matt Leinart was Naamie Chow’s tutelage?

DON: He wasn’t able to make the jump to the NFL.

  1. Matt was outstanding, including demolishing the favored Sooners, 55-19, it could have been much worse if Pete hadn’t called off the assault, and beating the domers in South Bend with his assisted sneak, which included playing on a field with freaking long grass that was intended to slow the speedy Trojans.

    1. Matt was a perfectionist and a leader. He cried before he played his last game against UCLA. Pete was worried….but he sent in easy stuff until Matt settled down….and came through as he had many, many times before.

Which Trojan Quarterback ever loved playing the position more?

      1. P. S.

Tall, unkept and uncut grass? Here’s another Notre Dame tradition I don’t miss: getting jobbed by the refs at South Bend. Poor Larry Smith and dumb, weak Clay Helton watched drives halted —not by the N. D. defense but by incorrect marks and bad calls.

      2. Matt overcame reconstruction of his left shoulder and elbow surgery to win natties. Now, that is a Trojan, ladies and gentlemen.

  2. KAM: Did we ever resolve whether Wiley was at the Tribute to Troy event this year?

DON: Like a good movie that is dealing with a true story, a little extra pizzazz is sometimes added to enhance it as in “Hollywood is calling”

Lincoln Riley did not attend the annual Tribute To Troy event this past weekend with his usual lame excuses.

DON: How does Lincoln Riley’s absence from Tribute To Troy impact USC’s fan engagement?

Lincoln Riley’s absence from Tribute To Troy may negatively impact USC’s fan engagement, as events like these are crucial for building community and connection between the program and its supporters. Fans often look forward to such gatherings to celebrate the team’s history and current achievements, and his absence could lead to disappointment among the fanbase.

    2. At least he didn’t end up driving a forklift a few months after finishing his collegiate football career, the way Bruin Eric McNeal did. (I wouldn’t normally knock a guy making a honest living. But Matt learned what he needed to, in order to provide a very nice life for him & his family.)

Many people, such as Barack Obama, get very far in life without being able to speak English at a 3rd grade level.

      1. SoCal, you really showed your ass with that bigoted comment! By the way they actually did a study of the presidents’ vocab skills and your hero, the Big Peedo came in dead last with fourth grade level speech skills!!!

      3. Obama the night before the election: “Get out and vote, whether you vote for John McCain or ‘MYSELF’.”

WRONG. Unless you’ve already used “I” or “me” as the object of the sentence, odds are “myself” doesn’t belong and in this case it certainly did not!

Its only correct uses are as a reflexive pronoun (I hurt myself) or intensive pronoun (I did it myself).

It’s grade school English, you moron. A former Editor of the Harvard Law Review should know this, but Barack does not.

      4. Eighteen-year-old comment(pathetic), that’s what you brought to the table? You didn’t find a devastating argument; you found a grammar error old enough to vote.

Imagine being so desperate to score a point that you have to exhume a grammar mistake from 2008. At least try to find an argument that’s still alive.

I could cite several more, but that one always made me laugh. It wasn’t a one-time “mistake”. It was something he said incorrectly on many occasions because he didn’t realize it was wrong.

They hate being embarrassed & proven wrong and will even lie about having been. But that’s their MO.

  4. hey wolfman, (chortle) i had to examine the video carefully, but i could finally read Professor Leinart’s response to the question! he wrote (HAWR HAWR) “Gold/Treasure”!!! even Ice-T got it right!! now, the trojans have been depicted by Homer as the dumbbells of the ancient world, now thanks to the Professor, the modern world is covered as well!!

Wolfman, i already see the desperate attempts of Whataboutisms starting to emerge!! i suppose they’ll be bringing up Hillary’s e-mails shortly!!! HAWR HAWR!! wolfman, your soaring intellect is shamefully wasted on these SC rubes!! it’s never too late to join the Bruin camp!!

    1. Update: The consensus among modern historians is Odysseus placed gold and treasure [and Hostess cupcakes] inside the horse to celebrate King Priam’s 67th birthday.

This statement is incorrect; Odysseus did not place gold and treasure inside the Trojan Horse to celebrate King Priam’s birthday.

DON: Instead, the Trojan Horse was a deceptive ploy used by the Greeks to gain entry into the city of Troy during the Trojan War.

  11. Sorry folks I just don’t see any true leaders , and coaches with fire on this year’s USC team. I see a trip to the Alamo, or Las Vegas Bowl at best. -Losses to Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, and either UCLA or Wisconsin on their home field will be the last straw for the “The Life of Riley”- (note: anyone remember this TV Show starring William Bendix)

  12. Matt should have taken Greek Mythology instead of ballroom dancing that last semester.

Not excited for the season. The image of Riley’s confused face on the sideline is depressing.

Can’t believe I am saying this, but I want Kiff back. Can’t believe it.

He’s still Kiff, but the Saban coaches rehab cured him of his worst tendencies.

It’s a redemption arc for SC and Kiff.

SC always does best with a coach who is a character. Hardly a bigger character in cfb than Kiff at this point. McKay loved trolling too.

At least Kiff knows and would HONOR the SC traditions. He’s the guy who did 50-0 vs UCLA. Still scoring in the 4th Q. He gets it. To maximize Bruin pain is a hallowed SC tradition. Kiff wouldn’t dodge ND.

And seeing all the LSU corndogs go ballistic would be delicious.

    Come home Joey Freshwater.
