USC returned to shoulder pads and shorts today and maybe this is a reason: After yesterday’s full pads practice, offensive linemen Clayton Bradley and Jacob Daniel, linebacker Hunter Echols and cornerback Greg Johnson were out today. They joined wide receiver Kyle Ford, defensive lineman Jacob Lichtenstein, tailback Vavae Malepeai, tight end Ethan Rae, linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu, cornerback Max Williams and linebacker Elijah Winston. So maybe … Continue reading Wednesday Practice Report

My feelings on the QB derby are pretty well known. But does it sound like the competition should be over when a USC website is saying this abut JT Daniels‘ Tuesday practice? “This was arguably Daniels’ least impressive practice of spring ball and fall camp, as he just couldn’t seem to get anything going for any extended amount of time.” Continue reading Another View Of QB Controversy

USC wide receiver Bru McCoy has not participated in summer workouts or training camp for around seven weeks. Clay Helton said the first day of training camp McCoy had a virus. Now I hear McCoy’s had a fever for seven weeks and has seen several doctors about it. McCoy did take a photo yesterday for USCScoop.com. Continue reading What’s Up With Bru McCoy?

USC’s wide receivers had a big scrimmage and a good day at Tuesday’s practice. But it’s safe to say the defensive secondary is not scaring anyone. Especially when you consider the defense is supposed to be ahead of the offense during the first 7-10 days of any training camp. There have been moments here-or-there when Olaijah Griffin or Talanoa Hufanga intercepts a pass. But overall … Continue reading The Flip Side Of Wide Receivers’ Success

A couple USC coaches told me last week not to be surprised if Clay Helton made freshman quarterback Kedon Slovis No. 2 on the depth chart. Slovis had a good practice Tuesday after a rocky scrimmage Saturday but has potential. The question for me is whether Helton would rock the position by actually making his oldest quarterbacks (Jack Sears, Matt Fink) the last choices? Neither … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Will Helton Rock The Boat?

USC actually practiced in full pads today like normal teams do. And generally speaking, it was a good day for the QBs. Freshman Kedon Slovis, who has been inconsistent recently, had a deep TD pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown and a sideline bomb to Velus Jones. Cornerback Isaac Taylor-Stuart intercepted a JT Daniels pass that was tipped by tight end Erik Krommenhoek. The catch of … Continue reading USC Wide Receivers Dominate Practice
