When Norman Topping became USC president in 1958, his first major address following his inauguration was at the homecoming luncheon on Nov. 5. Topping talked about USC having a variety of business interests. “We also engage in entertainment in a small way, although I’ve heard the word, entertainment, questioned after some of our football games this year.” USC went 4-5-1 in 1958.
