USC Morning Buzz: Remembering More On C.R. Roberts
C.R. Roberts deserves more attention so I want to highlight some more of his accomplishments. He was a 200-pound running back in his senior year at Oceanside High School, where he rushed for 1,903 yards and accounted for 30 TD’s, including seven where he threw the TD pass. He had games with 274, 331 and 317 yards. He averaged 9.5 yards per carry. He was … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Remembering More On C.R. Roberts
USC Legend C.R. Roberts Dies
C.R. Roberts, the USC fullback who gained 251 yards against Texas after the Trojans were kicked out of their segregated hotel, died Wednesday of natural causes. He was 87. Roberts is best remembered for the 1956 game vs. Texas when USC went to face Texas and was told its African-American players could not stay at its Austin hotel. USC coach Jess Hill refused to stay … Continue reading USC Legend C.R. Roberts Dies
USC Notes: Some Wednesday Craziness
I could talk about the Ed Orgeron is interested in Northwestern story and what a crazy fit that would be. It’s like saying Orgeron is interested in the Stanford job. But instead, here’s something from UCLA. Another “cinematic season.” What does that even mean? Maybe playing Coastal Carolina and North Carolina Central at the Rose Bowl will be cinema classics but I doubt it. Continue reading USC Notes: Some Wednesday Craziness
Donna Heinel Released From Prison
Former USC administrator Donna Heinel was released from prison on July 5. She was sentenced to six months in January for her role in the Varsity Blues scandal. Heinel, 61, plead guilty to wire fraud in November, 2021. She alledgedly took $160,000 from Rick Singer, the ring leader of the scandal. Singer was sentenced to 3.5 years in January. Heinel probably got off light considering … Continue reading Donna Heinel Released From Prison
A Breathless Look At USC Basketball
Jon Rothstein went to USC basketball practice yesterday and he was predictably breathless from what he observed. Example No. 1. USC's overall depth and size at center is staggering. Trojans have 20 fouls to give at the 5. Vince Iwuchukwu, Joshua Morgan, Kijani Wright, Arrinten Page. — Jon Rothstein (@JonRothstein) July 11, 2023 https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js This analysis would be a lot easier to take if not … Continue reading A Breathless Look At USC Basketball
USC Morning Buzz: Forget About NFL Futures
I’m pretty tired of seeing stories about next year’s NFL Draft and Caleb Williams. What matters is how many games USC wins this season. Not when Williams gets drafted. He played 21 games out of 33 his lone season at USC and averaged 9.5 points per game. My verdict: No. Not enough time. And never established a connection with the fans, university.
