USC Fans Not Buying In To Anything Yet
Some USC boosters got together this morning and were talking about . . . the Super Bowl? That was four days ago. Why not USC? “A lot of us don’t really care at this point,” a booster told me. “We’re tired of waiting for a coaching change.” This is the hurdle for USC once things get back to a more normal state. If crowds are … Continue reading USC Fans Not Buying In To Anything Yet
USC Morning Buzz: Can Culture Change Without Real Change?
Make sure to sign up for the new USC newsletter here, where I have detailed coaching friction and the weird culture of the program this week. Speaking of the odd culture, a coach told me one reason there was no significant change last season despite the massive coaching overhaul is that no matter what happens, the players still know they can get their way with … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Can Culture Change Without Real Change?
Can Someone Else Recruit Besides Donte Williams?
I keep wondering how USC’s other coaches like it when Donte Williams gets all the credit for the recruiting class? Williams probably deserves most of the plaudits. But if it is true, what did Todd Orlando or Vic So’oto do? I thought So’oto was supposed to be a budding Ed Orgeron but he didn’t produce much in this recruiting class. Last season, 25 players wore the same number. … Continue reading USC Facing Number Crunch?

OK, time for an announcement. I am supplementing the Inside USC blog coverage with a USC newsletter. The newsletter is for the more hard-core readers who want to know stuff that is going on behind-the-scenes and less general in tone/purpose. Instead of explaining it, I would rather you read the first entry, which concerns coaching friction. Just click here. Meanwhile, here is a rendering from … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Time For An Announcement
A Few More Stories On A Legendary Team
A couple follow-ups to yesterday’s story on the Crenshaw Post 715 American Legion baseball team. The coach, Benny Lefebvre, ran a summer baseball camp on Catalina Island in the 1950’s. Catalina, which was owned by William Wrigley, had its own private security at the time. One day, Benny wanted to use the facilities. A warden said no and started giving Lefebvre a hard time. They … Continue reading A Few More Stories On A Legendary Team
