Here’s a Lynn Swann quote that received less attention today: “We want to be in the picture and the conversation about the national championship, on the national scene.” If Swann really wanted to be in any conversation this season why did he bring back Clay Helton? USC might be better this season but does anyone think they can be n the national championship conversation? Has … Continue reading USC Wants To Be In National Conversation

Here’s what Lynn Swann said today about expectations for USC this season: “The expectations are always the same. That never changes. The expectation is we’re going to win the Pac-12 championship.” Swann had a couple stumbles at the podium today, forgetting to introduce a group of donors and referring to Fresno State as “San Jose State.” It’s probably hard when you only infrequently speak to … Continue reading Lynn Swann’s As Inconsistent As USC Last Season

Lynn Swann showed up at the Coliseum ribbon-cutting ceremony. Proof he “works” from time to time. New USC president Carol Folt said at the ceremony she was glad it’s still called the “Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.” That’s a slap to the past administration (Max Nikias!). By the way, a USC official said today all but one of the Founders Suites have been sold. They cost … Continue reading Lynn Swann Shows At Coliseum

The point of the USC QB derby was for JT Daniels to demonstrate he has clearly become better than the other quarterbacks. So far, that has not happened. He will win the job. But he hasn’t seized it. That matters to football people. It doesn’t matter to Clay Helton, who also picked Max Browne over Sam Darnold in 2016. Just remember when you see pictures … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: A QB Should Seize Job

USC returned to shoulder pads and shorts today and maybe this is a reason: After yesterday’s full pads practice, offensive linemen Clayton Bradley and Jacob Daniel, linebacker Hunter Echols and cornerback Greg Johnson were out today. They joined wide receiver Kyle Ford, defensive lineman Jacob Lichtenstein, tailback Vavae Malepeai, tight end Ethan Rae, linebacker Solomon Tuliaupupu, cornerback Max Williams and linebacker Elijah Winston. So maybe … Continue reading Wednesday Practice Report

My feelings on the QB derby are pretty well known. But does it sound like the competition should be over when a USC website is saying this abut JT Daniels‘ Tuesday practice? “This was arguably Daniels’ least impressive practice of spring ball and fall camp, as he just couldn’t seem to get anything going for any extended amount of time.” Continue reading Another View Of QB Controversy
