Everything USC does has a common thread: Money. It will pay UC Davis only $725,000 to play at the Coliseum in 2021 per The Athletic. USC paid Western Michigan $1.2 million in 2017 for a nonconference game at the Coliseum. Now that’s a good reason for the skin flints in the athletic dept. to bury tradition. Insiders believe money was the reason successful men’s tennis … Continue reading USC Morning Buzz: Money Talks Edition
Pac-12 commissioner Larry Scott makes more than $5.3 million per year but doesn’t want athletes getting paid. “We are very clearly opposed to any pay for play situation,” Scott said. You can be for-or-against college athletes getting paid, but Scott is the wrong messenger on this issue. And a host of other issues. With all the talk about USC playing UC Davis, here’s a photo from back when the Trojans played Alabama and it wasn’t on a neutral field. It’s the 1978 USC-Alabama game, where the No. 7-ranked Trojans defeated the No. 1-ranked Crimson Tide, 24-14, in Birmingham, Ala. Continue reading USC Picture Of The Day
If you are lucky enough to sit in the new Coliseum Tower, I’m sure it will be quite a different experience this season. But the pictures below from the general seating doesn’t look like it got much of the $300 million USC spent to renovate. The seats look spartan, frankly. But Trojans are close to Spartans so maybe it is appropriate. Maybe the Tower got … Continue reading The Coliseum Transformation Is Near Complete
