Kliff Kingsbury is getting mentioned as a candidate at Houston after it fired Major Applewhite. Is that really what the Cougars want? A guy who was 35-40 at Texas Tech and had a losing record with Patrick Mahomes? I suspect USC fans like it when these facts are brought up to deter Kingsbury from taking a head job. But dismiss them when considering Kingsbury’s overall … Continue reading USC Sunday Buzz: King Kliff And Houston?
If the fact Notre Dame could only beat USC by 7 points was not a huge warning, the Irish proved how they did not belong in the College Football Playoff today as Clemson breezed to a 30-3 victory. And Alabama-Oklahoma was not a whole lot better as the Crimson Tide got off to a 28-0 lead. Which leads me to the Pac-12. There is a … Continue reading College Football Playoff Saturday . . . Zzzzz
I know there are still a few apologists out there defending USC’s recruiting class but here’s another tale. KJ Trujillo, a three-star cornerback from Orange Lutheran, said he was offered a scholarship by USC on Dec. 17. That was two days before Signing Day! Still another day with no developments regarding the strength and conditioning program. By the way, does anyone remember how JuJu Smith-Shuster was misused during his junior year? He is the “surprise” of the NFL but maybe that is because the Steelers know what they are doing. Remember when Alabama held Smith-Shuster to one catch for nine yards and the USC coaches said it was because … Continue reading Morning Buzz: USC Players Get Better . . . In NFL
The Conference of Champions won a bowl game! Of course No. 13-ranked Washington State had to squeak out a 28-26 victory over No. 24 Iowa State but the Pac-12 will take any victory it can get at this point. It’s also refreshing to see a coach “over-achieve.” I would not know what that feels like watching USC play. Continue reading All Hail The Pac-12
Another week at USC with no permanent president, an incompetent athletic director and a clueless football coach. What’s amazing is some people want to head toward 2019 thinking with that formula, a new offensive coordinator will solve the football program’s woes. I spent a lot of time this week highlighting the cornerback issues next season. If USC coaches knew only three corners returned, why were … Continue reading If It’s Friday, It’s Time For A USC Notes Column
