USC Night Notes: Chuma Edoga and Rodney Peete Edition

The New York Jets selected offensive tackle Chuma Edoga in the third round. The Jets wanted Edoga so bad they traded a seventh-round pick to move up a spot.

Talk about a turnaround since the season ended. Edoga had an inconsisent career and clashed with offensive line coach Neil Callaway at USC. But he’s been a model prospect since at the Senior Bowl and other workouts. It paid off because USC didn’t do much to make him an NFL prospect.

  • What is going on with Rodney Peete? TMZ reports Peete and his wife, Holly Robinson Peete, are being sued by Barry’s Tickets for more than $50,000 for allegedly not paying the entire amount for 8 Super Bowl tickets.

Now here is the crazy part: Peete has a show on 570-AM. Barry’s Tickets is a station “partner.” If you listen to 570, you probably have heard commercials for Barry’s. So why would Peete want to get into a squabble with them? It makes no sense.

Barry’s claims they offered Peete a discount price ($11,500 per ticket if he paid before Feb. 3) with the price going up to $12,500 afterward. Barry’s says in the lawsuit Peete paid only $46,000. The ticket broker wants another $54,000 plus interest plus legal fees.

  1. Rosen Is Out!
While giving out dozens of FREE autographs, Kurt Warner told reporters and fans that Josh Rosen —freshly traded the hell out of Arizona —should try to make a good impression on his NEXT team.
[And speaking of free —I was just watching a popular artist on cable give out free sketches to kids at a convention. Every sketch took a lot longer and was a lot harder to do than signing an autograph. Where the hell does Swann get off]?

      Gong goes the Vic Bell.

And Rosen heads for Miami, Fla. There’s a lot of fun and hot tubs to be had in Miami.

      1. Micheal, it’s the ruins. It’s like standing in the rain and getting wet. Doesn’t take much effort, just an ability to cut and paste….

  2. Edoga responded to the non heltonesque faux coaching just as many other 4 and 5 star athletes have who transferred out…the way to the nfl for SC football players…ignore helton,or leave.

    1. Helton impressed Kiffin —so there must be something to his qb coaching talent (although I haven’t seen the results on the field). But as Head Coach, Helton doesn’t have it. Great coaches know how to exploit the other team, how to lay traps, how to put their players in position to win the one on ones—-and, most importantly, how to win the big games. They also know how to maximize their own team’s strengths. Helton doesn’t seem able to do these things. The surprise, to me at least, is how effective Helton is as a salesman for a product. He’s missed his calling.

      1. Not sure kiffin wasn’t sold by the salesman instead of a good eval and real proof…as you say BS is heltons forte’ , not real coaching. I don’t recall any great team or coach passing up any practices/scrimmages in prep for the season and then a Bowl game…winning is fun , losing is NOT.

      2. Like all great salesman, Helton believes in what he’s selling when he’s selling it (even after repeatedly seeing that what he’s selling is a bad product)….

  3. SC is not much better though. They should have had around 4 guys drafted by now. It would have happened if Helton and his staff could coach
