Afternoon Notes: Pressure Increases On USC Basketball

UCLA just upset No. 18-ranked Colorado, 70-63. USC is now 1.5 games behind the Bruins in the Pac-12 standings.

I’m sure Mike Bohn is not surprised about Mick Cronin being a good coach since they worked together at Cincinnati. And I’m sure Bohn was unhappy to lose him.

USC now probably needs to beat Arizona on Thursday or beat Utah, Arizona State and UCLA to assure an NCAA Tournament bid.

But the picture below highlights a history-making moment at USC. In 1968, Cynthia Watson became the first African-American student crowned Helen of Troy. At the same time, Carolyn Webb was the first African-American student crowned UCLA football queen.

Mimi Orr, the 1967 Helen of Troy, crowns a happy Cynthia Watson at the 1968 Troy Week Ball.
