Important Announcement About USC Blog

When I started this blog 29 months ago, it was going to be more of a hobby after covering USC for more than 20 years.

I never imagined it would grow to its current size and attract such a loyal audience.

Well, now it’s time to grow even more. Today, I’m taking the InsideUSC blog to Sports Illustrated. The new address is https://www.si.com/college/usc/

The new USC blog will be the same in many ways but will have much more video, more recruiting and a stronger “community” area for comments. I hope you will join me at the new site for even more USC coverage.

      1. Michael, I agree that the SEC will be much more focused on player well-being than what would happen in the Pac-12.

In the Pac-12 there would be a lot of talk, but at the end of the day, some piece of key PPE would not be ordered.

    1. I heard lots of stories from my grandparents about the “resistance” in mid 1940’s Italy and the things reportedly said by the ‘red brigade’ leaders justifying payback, cruelty, destruction and death. One of the comments they told me about —which I will always remember because it was so different from the rest —actually came from a penitent communist militia leader: “in war people come up with lots of philosophical reasons for death….but the truth is the ones committing the murders were just murderers all along.”

  2. It’s official with 1:30PM press conference scheduled.

    Season postponed.

NCAA should give everyone additional redshirt year.

These blogs are going to be awfully quiet now that fall college sports is gone.

  3. Needless to say, I am very nervous as we approach 1800 hits—being how 18 is really only three sixes. The problem with the #18 was pointed out for the first time when R.J. Souward complained that it was that number on his jersey that caused him to drop 4 passes against Cal. We dodged a bullet when we zoomed by the #666 —let’s treat 1800 with the same vigilance….

    1. It’s about “getting on with life.”

It one wants to sit at home and watch stale reruns on TV and peruse the same old fodder on Facebook, then go ahead. Have a good time. IN the Red states, they are already
“getting on with (this new) life.” Even with no fans in the stands, they’ll have parties to watch games with their alumni/boosters.

They’ll also go to work on Monday, cuz work is important to their identity. They would have done better with $600/week in unemployment, but silly pride caused them to take the “pay cut” and show up for work. When times turn tough, they’ll soldier on.

  13. Where is the NCAA leadership in the current football fiasco? How do you have a playoff without 2 major conferences? Seems like either the Power 5 is all in, or all out.

    1. Which brings us back to your question, 67 —where is the leadership? What we’re seeing —nationwide on all levels — is cowardice and buck passing.

    2. President Carol Folt is leading USC to become The Stanford of the West. Racist sexist patriarchal football and mens basketball don’t fit in that mission.

  14. Has the NCAA made any announcements about the football season? I don’t see any. It is a complete sh*t show with some Power 5 conferences in, and some out. The idea of playoffs and a natty just don’t work given the current circumstances of some in and some out.

  15. So far off the topic of the Trojans, but since we are in a “quiet” period regarding Trojan athletics, can anyone explain how the mayor of Chicago has a 75% approval rating? When there are 600 shootings a month, along with over 100 shooting deathers per month?

    1. Easy to explain — lots of historians have pointed out that civilizations on the way out (1) get involved in endless wars, (2) enjoy brutal and decadent entertainment and (3) enthusiastically rally around leaders patently unworthy to lead. Trump isn’t what I would call an exceptional leader ….but, wowsy , what do you call Chicago’s Mayor? Or Nancy Pelsoi?

      1. Can’t we do (2), but hold the brutality?

      2. Ha! Loved your question about #2! Back in Catholic school, a nun was telling us that the Loathly Lady in Chaucer’s Tales had 4 characteristics –she was a trickster, a deceiver, a shape shifter and a lewd woman —I raised my hand and asked, “All things being equal, Sister, could we begin by focusing on #4??”

      3. Both parties could do better.

Chicago? A hell-hole since the last fire ripped through the place….in 1868 or so.

    1. I realized something, 67 —the Pac 12 liberals had to cancel the season for fear that games would prove there were ways of keeping large groups of people safe and healthy. When the SEC gets through their games without incident it’s gonna show up the Pac 12 presidents for what they are —-timid hacks.

  16. Brooks Brothers sold:

ROOKS BROTHERS LIKELY TO BE SOLD FOR $325 MILLION:

The New York-based clothier picked Sparc Group LLC — a partnership between mall owner Simon Property Group and brand-licensing firm Authentic Brands Group — as its winning buyer late Tuesday after scrapping a bankruptcy auction planned for earlier in the day.

A federal judge will consider whether to approve the sale at a hearing set for 10 a.m. Friday.

Brooks Brothers chose Sparc’s initial $305 million offer last month as its “stalking horse” bid, the price for other potential buyers to beat. Brooks Brothers spokesperson Arielle Patrick said the 202-year-old company received other bids but she declined to say who submitted them.

Endorsed – but only if the new Brooks Brothers brings back the classic Traditional Fit shirt.
