Important Announcement About USC Blog

When I started this blog 29 months ago, it was going to be more of a hobby after covering USC for more than 20 years.

I never imagined it would grow to its current size and attract such a loyal audience.

Well, now it’s time to grow even more. Today, I’m taking the InsideUSC blog to Sports Illustrated. The new address is https://www.si.com/college/usc/

The new USC blog will be the same in many ways but will have much more video, more recruiting and a stronger “community” area for comments. I hope you will join me at the new site for even more USC coverage.

While safely ensconced in a Denver hospital (I didn’t own a TV at the time so I’d occasionally hang out to watch some tube) I recall watching LA riot on the tele after the acquittal of Stacey Koon, et al. Particularly chilling was watching how the mob pulled Reginald Denny (sp) out of his rig and beat him near to death. I wondered, “what happened to the DIVERSE City I loved?”

      This story gives me the same chill, though I’ve not visited Portland for 50 years.

      Don’t worry about L.A., Bourbon. The men responsible for that terrible beating were prosecuted for their crimes…….and a wise L. A. jury found them only guilty of misdemeanors…. (btw, the main defendant was released for good behavior — unfortunately, he committed murder when he hit the streets again and had to go back into incarceration)…..

  24. From the link: “Stanford University will remove admissions test requirements for the upcoming school year in response to COVID-19. Most notably, Stanford Medicine, one of the top medical schools in the country, will not require the MCAT.”

    Should we take their claims seriously? No, a typical fourth-grader could come up with a way to administer the MCAT to an already low-risk population of young adults without creating a credible risk of their acquiring Covid-19. Rent tables and chairs, and spread them out yards apart in a sunny meadow. Give the test there.

    The real reason is that MCAT does two things these schools do not like.

    1. By separating those likely to do well in medical school from those who won’t, a MCAT-based admissions policy means more Asians will be admitted and fewer blacks that their covert quotas want to allow.

    2. By having a measurement of just how qualified those admitted were known to be on admission, it offers a test of just how well—or more likely poorly—these schools are at handling those admitted based on quotas rather than ability.

    The end result will be a devaluation of the value of a degree from Stanford Medical for all who attend. Schools have to teach to the lowest common denominator. Lower that denominator and you lower the result for everyone.

      The one thing American Medicine does not need is a bunch of snowflakes melting down in a brutal Urban Assault ER.

      Prayers that Keck USC Med does not follow suit. We’ve been quietly stalking Stanford for supremacy in the Western medical center rankings. Could be our opportunity…..
